Internet Dating.....Who Has Done it?!

I've offered to pay for the first date and she wants to go 50/50 should I leave it at that knowing I don't have a gold digger?

Let her split the first one if she wants to... It's probably to avoid her feeling guilty if she doesn't want to meet again. Which means she has good intentions at heart.

Well things seem to move fast on POF, signed up on Tuesday and I've already got a date arranged. With another potential date lined up with another girl (who I seem to prefer) on the cards.

Any tips for a total newbie so I don't mess it up?

Don't expect anything, be yourself, don't lie. The more you procrastinate etc, the more you will come across a nervous wreck!

If it doesnt work then she is not worth it

Something that i've always wondered about internet dating (never tried it myself)... when you meet these girls/blokes for the first time, what do you do? Cheeky peck on the cheek? Hug? Handshake? :p

Or do you just kind of say "hi" and crack on?

Seems like it'd be a little awkward to me!

Usually meet up give a big smile, high energy vibe and then say "hi", lean in, go for some light kino and go for a quick peck on the cheek followed up by "how are you?"

Don't handshake at all, it's not a job interview!

well ive sent out load of messages, i think im doing this all wrong! i have hardly no idea of what to put to end up putting one or two lines about something in the profile? this is all so new to me lol advice for messages please?

i keep on getting hugs :( but i never am the first one to initiate it with 'fresh ;)' chicks..

my ex for e.g. met me first time and went for a kiss 3 hrs LATER.. what a fighter :D

God its getting worse!

Signed up on Monday, now have 3 dates arranged for over the weekend. The last girl even messaged me asking for a date, so i must be doing something right.

One thing I must ask also, at what point is it correct to stop seeing/chatting to any other girls, as I'm not one to string girls along and wouldn't want to go on other "first dates" when I'm on a 2nd/3rd with another girl.

p.s.... I might have to get OcUK in to help me pick if it comes down to the wire haha!

Edit :- I always go for a friendly hug, if they wrap theirs hands around with meaning I might give them a peck on the cheek. As it sets the tone as a date and not just seeing a friend etc

Had someone message me a couple days ago. She seems like shes not an idiot and can string sentences together to form a decent message. Only problem is, she's got no profile pic.. She's put athletic down as her body type but for some reason I'm suspicious! Trying to think of a way I can ask for a photo without coming across as overly shallow!

ask her for her facebook because pof is blocked in work but facebook isnt?

Well this is a new one (for me anyway). I was browsing through profiles the other week and this one guy's profile caught my eye AND he was really hot. I presumed I wouldn't have a chance so I continued looking. Suddenly he writes to me (eek!) and we've written about 40 messaged to each other in the last week and a bit.
He asked if I had Skype because he couldn't meet for at least a week (business trip). I didn't want to give him my Skype as I don't like skyping friends let alone someone I don't know.
Anyway...curiosity got the better of me so I asked him if he had Facebook, which he didn't (I'm always wary of people who don't have Facebook, haha!). I then decided I would add him on Skype and he actually had a different pic to the one on OKCupid. The problem is...it looks nothing like him! I think he might have even used a fake on his profile! He even looks to be of a different ethnicity in both pics - what the heck! I'm peed off that he's done this - I was really quite into him, sigh!

Just reverse google image search his OkCupid pic.

I don't think it comes across as shallow. Just ask her :)

Eek. Bit odd that he asked you to Skype knowing you'd see the different picture. Sounds like he was hoping his personality would win you over in the end... so much so that you wouldn't be bothered that he'd lied to you

The whole picture thing is common. happened to me twice. Once few weeks ago and one 4 years ago. Lots of nice pictures, looked great in both cases (slender, tanned!)

When met, both were considerably fatter and pasty (one was really fat, it was terrible). I actually asked both about when their pics were taken, apparently years old...
