SORTED ! :D

Yes I didn't really think of that, would be bit of a drive for you! I'll think of some places near to here we could go then just be simple case of you driving back home rather thasn backwards and forwards.

A word of warning for those daring to venture on to Match.com:

Make sure if you sign up for the paid-for service that you read the Terms & Conditions VERY carefully and make sure you turn off automatic renewal of your subscription ASAP!

I signed up for the full service six months ago, met someone elsewhere then promptly forgot about my Match subscription. Cue shock today when they'd helped themselves to £167.20 of my hard-earned with NO prior warning. Apparently they say they can do this as you agree to a CCA on your debit/credit/paypal when you sign up and they have a no refunds policy. Needless to say I'm taking it further but I though I'd warn to stop anyone else unintentially funding this parasitic organisation.

FYI the policy they have is that you have to notify them AT LEAST 48 hours prior to your renewal date to avoid being billed again.

Also with match.com

You have to PHONE THEM to cancel, you can't do it online only by phone!

Despite all the fluffy adverts, the bottom line is that these organisations prey on people feeling a bit lonely in order to make their money. It's in their best interest that you don't actually find someone too quickly, and with the shady practice outlined above, I'd not be surprised if their search/matching "algorithm" fudges or limits things significantly (and I wonder if there are fake profiles about to make up numbers).

Most who get burned will just chalk it down to experience, but I daresay that some who have resorted to dating sites may be a tad emotionally vulnerable and it'll just be another kick in the teeth.

I still think the best way to meet someone for the long term is through something that you're really passionate about. I meet loads of really great people (and yes, many of them female) through playing in amateur piano events and going to concerts. :)

Being single is far too convenient for me at the moment, but if I suddenly changed my mind, I'd start there as I doubt many of those PoF'ers posted in links so far would enjoy listening to me practicing Chopin and Schubert all afternoon on a Sunday. ;)

WhyIoutta..... I've been patiently awaiting your reply for aaaaaages m'lady!

As for Match - yes they do state that you have to cancel your subscription otherwise they just keep taking the money from your account. Although it's very easy to sign up, there's no cancel option on the website, you have to call them to get it sorted, where they'll no doubt try and blag you to stick around.

Well, signed up 2 days ago and a random girl is kidnapping me at 9.30pm. Proper random, just how I like it!

Haha, no knife wielding psycho here.

It's quite amusing actually. A mate of mine from work moved in with this girl in the town I used to live in with my ex. Turns out it's next door where I used to live! He tells the girl he's staying with he works with me and she acclaimed that I was some wife beating maniac! I'd only met her the once in the 3 years I lived there and that was to apologise for the dog I was looking after.

Anyway, yesterday I get a message on POF from this girl saying how she liked my profile and whatever. I replied with a similar response and then moments later it dawned on me who it was. I was sooo tempted to play her and see how it took for her to notice who I was but I'm too honest so I sent her a nice message explaining that I'm not a wife beating mentalist and that she must be hearing things or something.

Anyway, few messages and text later she picked me up last night and we went for a stroll in the dark with her dog. Random as hell, but funny circumstances. We got onto the subject of noises from each others bedrooms as sound does travel in those houses. We've hit it off I'd say and we're meeting up again tonight. If it goes far though my ex still lives next door and my name is still on that mortgage. Awkward! lol.

Click on 'My Account', then 'My subscription' and you should be able to do it from there. What I did.
Their online help site tells you to do this, but once you get to My Subscription there aren't any options to cancel, but there is one to suspend - is this what I'm after?

No, there's one to cancel. Would just be a link type thing, not a button. I tried looking but since I'm already cancelled, the option aint there for me no more. I do remember that you have to chase through about 4-5 pages to get there as it's quite well hidden. Play around there, you'll find it.

I'll have another look this eve (blocked from work) but I went through it a couple of times and there was definitely no Cancel option - there's only two options on that particular page to 'Suspend' and to 'Hide' your profile.
