iPad Mini...

No doubt the iPad Mini 2 will come with retina so if the resolution really bothers you just wait for the second incarnation.

I had thought about buying an iPad for Christmas but now I'm really undecided about which size to get.

Might wait for the iPad 5 / Mini 2...

If it had retina I would have snapped one up at any price. But current PPI is the same as a 3GS.

3GS vs 4:

Perhaps one day but with developers already adjusting their apps for iphone 5 and even ipad retina still you'd be ticking a lot of devs off to shove another resolution in there.

I think it would be quite a struggle to double the resolution of a tablet that small, surely it would be getting close to 400ppi?

They would double it from 163 to 326. So it would be the same as the iPhone 4/4s ppi. Where as it's currently the same ppi as a 3GS.

iPhone 3GS: 163
iPhone 4/4S/5: 326
iPad 1/2: 132
iPad 3rd/4th Gen: 264
iPad Mini: 163

MBP 13" Retina: 227
MBP 15" Retina: 220

Not if they just double it - it'd be the same as the regular Retina iPad then. There was a tiiiiny 4k display on Engadget or something last week, like well under 10 inches, isn't impossible.

It would be more if you look at my post above it would be the same as the iPhone's though.

I don't think they thought it through before asking though considering Apple has that ppi display in a smaller device than the mini all ready.

Just got mine back!

Not sure what to think of it yet.

The reflections, colour gamut and brightness of the screen are a bit offputting for me right now. This is my first iPad after waiting and waiting and waiting for the next one all the time. The screen is nothing on the iPhone 5 for colours. Will see how I get on with it. Kinda tempted to go for the iPad 4 even though I've always wanted a smaller iPad.

The feel of the screen is a bit strange. It feels hollow to touch over the sturdy glass of the iPhone 5. The screen resolution is fine from viewing distance but I do find myself using it very close to my face much like the iPhone 5. The screen is NOT close to the surface either which i think is causing the reflections.

Does Sky Go work on these? I don't see why it shouldn't, but Sky seem to be a bit funny about what devices they enable it for.

Looks like I will give this generation a miss. This is what I want:

Retina
Bonded screen
A6+ CPU

I like the form factor though.
