iPad now?...or wait?

It's not like they made a couple of millions and stored away JUST IN CASE the others does well.

Cut it short? I doubt the release of an android will cause the iPad sale to STOP. People who buy apple products LIKE apple product, they don't even compare it to others. Like me, it's so easy to sync my stuff now between iMac, iphone and iPad, with all the money i have invested in apps I don't even care what the others offered...unless it's like £50 and free BJ!

They have a business plan and it's been great, they sold like 12 million of the thing! Even if the android does sell well, all apple need is a keynote and the world's attention will turn back their way.

I accept what you are saying, and you're probably right! I'm happy with it being released at a later date, January/February release - won't have enough money, April/May - will have saved up enough! :P

I'd wait till they sort out the current wifi issues with 4.2on the iPad. Utter tosh by apple so close to selling my iPad because of it.

Such a awesome piece of kit wrecked by this latest update :-(((((

What's wrong with 4.21? I'm having no problems here.

Seriously google it, wifi hangs like a dog , my sister has same iPad bought at the same time , she's on the older firmware and it snappy and quick. Mine however hangs and when it does work it's acts like it's on something like a 128k line.

Not good at all, last time I blindly update a apple product. Shame because pre 4.0.2 it was a fine piece of kit, now I'm n the verge of either selling it or maybe even sending it back to apple claiming not fit for purpose or something like that!!!

All I can see the next iPad having is more RAM (it is noticable compared with my iPhone 4), a front facing camera (for Facetime) and a built in SD card slot.

That's all I see the next one having, and I don't see it appearing until May time.

Having absolutely no issues with 4.2.1 here either. To be honest, the choice will be down to several factors - mainly what new features are confirmed, whether they are features you want/need and how long you have to wait for the new model to be available (not necessarily launch time). I can't really fault my iPad in any area (the memory amount seems to have little impact compared to my IP4) though I'd like a 128Gb model (I've taken my 64Gb one to within 4Gb of being full while away on holiday using it for film playback and as a RAW+JPEG image repository via the camera connection kit).

More RAM might be good to accomodate some of the bulkier apps such as the movie editing one as per the IP4, the front-facing camera might be good for those using Facetime (otherwise, walking around taking photos with something the size of an iPad would be a bit ridiculous) and I honestly can't see Apple adding an SD-card slot to either the iPhone or iPad in the near future.

Earlier this month, Reuters was told by its sources that the new iPad would be [..] and would have a “better resolution display than the first iPad.”

Likelihood of Happening: 99%
99%! No brainer! Mashable should contract someone who isn't a bit dim for their "comprehensive" guide :)

Apparently not. They started developing the iPad then released the iPhone instead. Allegedly there are people on the Apple campus who had seen an iPad 2 before the iPad was released.
Interesting. Doesn't appease me as a potential customer at this time, though!

Must say my iPad is on 4.21 and I have no problems at all with wifi connection at all. So I dunno maybe its like the dreaded iPhone 4 reception problem which I also never got..... Some people get the problems others don't.

Overall I love my iPad I bought it in the Black Friday sale. So I've not had it that long really. But I have to say I don't think there would be any point to me upgrading unless its something really stupidly amazing. Stuff like more RAM or front facing camera just doesn't interest me. All the apps I use/play on my iPad run completely fine. A camera well meh... I don't use facetime.

But we shall see. Personally I'd rather see a MBP upgrade than a new iPad :p

Absolutely no chance whatever.

exactly, they have the camera connection kit for that.

Creating a SD card slot goes against their designs, its like saying they are admitting it was wrong to miss out in the past for the iPhones (almost all Smart phones has one, the iPhones doesn't). Apple don't do expandable memory slot and never will.

If it's just a reader you want, get the camera connection kit.

what is guaranteed –

512RAM minimum (the iPhone 4 paved the way for that)

What is likely – (the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch paved the way for these)

Front facing camera
Gyro

What might happen –

Redesign of the chassis to bring it looking more like the iPhone 4, flat back instead of curved.
2 speakers instead of 1 (like the iPhone)

What WILL NOT happen –

Retina display (think how much a panel with that res cost in a 30inch monitor)
Camera on the back (the fact that it looks silly in a demonstration alone would make them think twice)
SD Card slot – They have the camera connection kit and Apple don't do expandable memory.

The iPhone only has one speaker.

It would certainly be cleaner and more Apple like to have one and limit its use to the same as the current camera kit.

We'll see though I guess.

Reckon it'll probably get bumped to 1280x960, 1600x1200 at a stretch. I think an iPhone 4 esque appearance is likely, as is dual FaceTime cameras (like the iPod Touch where both cams are for FT rather than taking pretty pictures with one). More RAM, quicker processor, probably bigger speakers too if that 3rd party case was legit.

If they don't increase the resolution, I will probably pick up a discounted/refurbished or even second hand iPad1. Although 512mb RAM would be ideal I only plan to use it as a glorified eReader, so I'd rather save some money.

Either way I wish they'd hurry up. :D

I ended up biting the bullet today and picking one up on a trip to Oxford Street. I decided that if a new one comes out within the next few months I will either just sell this or give it to my parents as I was initially intending to get them one as a Christmas present.

Loving it so far. :D

Apple aren't one for other peoples proprietary technology no matter how widespread or mainstream it is. Like you know ... umm Bluray ??

Can't see them ever going 3D as long it involves paying money to somebody else.
