iPad owners upgrading to iPad 2?

I've already sold my original iPad to a mate and now just have to wait for iPad 2.

The US Apple Store has 4-5 weeks now on iPad 2. Hope this doesn't mean a delay, or limited stocks, next Friday. Gonna get to Milton Keynes Apple store early Friday morning.

I believe when Apple said the IPad 2 was going to be the same price as the original they were referring to the £429 price tag.

So what's my best plan then, to have my first taste of Apple world ? ... The V1 at a discounted 329 (refurbs are out of stock) or a new V2 at 429 ?

Only bit that worries me is if future developments or Apps render the V1 too slow etc. or not compatible.... Like I posted earlier I'd be happy to buy used, but the auction prices are just stupid.

Has the price been announced yet? I start work soon and after two weeks there I should be able to afford the base iPad so long as it costs no more than say £500

I know the US price is $400 for the 16Gb WiFi (don't need 3G, will use iPhone MyWi/Hotspot instead) so are we looking at £350-430 for sure?

Edit: Does anybody here own a PC, laptop, iPhone and an iPad that actually gets used? I want one for sofa/bed/quick and easy web use along with the odd game here and there but a bit worried it might not get used much, how do you find it?

This is what I have just done. I guess it depends on what you are going to be doing with it. If I could have found a way to use it for work I would have grabbed one on launch. But for me it's just an alternative to a net book plus a handheld games console. Saying that, the dropbox app does display my work very nicely.

I have a Macbook Pro, iPad and iPhone 3GS - they all get used.

I use the MBP as my portable office sometimes hooked up to the external display otherwise take it out with me when visiting clients.

The iPad I use more for just "sofa browsing" some of the apps are pretty good, new ones coming out now (like the amazon windowshop and sky news ipad app for example) are actually better than the websites they're representing.

...and well the iPhone is kinda what started the apple disease so I keep that with me all the time and do still use it quite a lot outside of normal phone use, mainly for knowing if I've got an email while out on the go via push notification.

Looking for advice regarding an iPad purchase. What size, 16gb or 32gb do you recommend? I'd use it for browsing and downloading some apps, just worried that I'd run out of room on the 16gb model. Also what's peoples opinions on the supply in the UK? Surely because of the disaster in Japan and the shortages in the US the UK will see delays/limited stock?

IMO unless you're away from your own wifi for a long period (holidays, travel etc) then anything bigger than 16gb is really a waste of money even more so now iTunes Home Sharing is active.

thanks to ios 4.3 i dont need to get the 3g version as my iphone4 can do that for the ipad

Depends on your contract, it seems three give it for three (I think on their £25 PPM contract but not their £15) and others charge, I think voda charge on first use and Orange needs bolt ons, Tesco dont and O2 i'm not sure (even though same network-ish)

I know that feeling, i started off with a 2nd gen iPod, paid £300 for a 20gb iPod from a competitor when they first come out, was talk of the town when it came out lol

I had a few iPhones since, now everyone i know got iTouches, phones and "general" apple stuff but still no macs, everyone finds it funny I want a Mac , but I have no doubt in them after using them at work previously (worked great in windows even when I was testing beta drivers in boot camp)

So is the V2 going to be worth the extra 100 quid... tending to think not ....

I would think so, as a new buyer I would go for one (and i don't have one) but the old will still hold value. As above safari review showed it will load web pages fine, but do you value those seconds refreshing..

You will have plenty of space for just browsing and using apps, it's if you want a lot of music and videos on the device that will cause the issues.

I'm just gonna stick to using my iPhone for my music, if I want to listen to music on my iPad I will have my phone with me or if I'm at home I'll just use AirPlay. (actually even if I was at home I'd probably just use my phone still)

Well, I'll be getting mine from Orange, I want the sim version and I'd rather have it internally than tethering which I'll have to pay extra for anyway!

They should have stock available for the launch so I'll get a 32GB version ordered as soon as possible from there.

If there is some kind of delay with them longer than a week I'll just go to the Apple shop and see if they have some.

So, roll on the pre-order page! :D

I'm gathering Orange will allow pre-orders this week and they'll ship them as soon as they get them in.

I dont think Apple are taking orders until Friday though.
