According to Apple the 2.1 software is now out for the iPhone.

Surprised there's no thread on 2.1 already, here's the info:

iPhone 2.1 Software Update

iPhone version 2.1 contains many bug fixes and improvements, including the following:
• decrease in call set-up failures and call drops
• significantly improved battery life for most users
• dramatically reduced time to backup to iTunes
• improved email reliability, notably fetching email from POP and Exchange accounts
• faster installation of 3rd party applications
• fixed bugs causing hangs and crashes if you have lots of 3rd party applications
• improved performance in text messaging
• faster loading and searching of contacts
• improved accuracy of the 3G signal strength display
• repeat alert up to two additional times for incoming text messages
• option to wipe data after ten failed passcode attempts
• Genius playlist creation

Impressive update, about time they sorted the sms

Still cant forward though :(

Sloooooowwwww download. Looks like I'll have to do it first thing in morning. Not sure whether it's Apple that can't cope at this time of night after an update or my ISP...
 
Avoid itunes 8 if running vista64. It basically no longer recognises my iPhone 3G. Downgrading as we speak.

No problem here running iTunes 8 on Vista x64 with my iPhone 3G all is working perfectly fine together:)

Updated to 2.1 and all is well. My iPhone sms is a lot more snapper, and I'm liking the faster backups while syncing......good update apple!
 
GAHHH 2nd time in a row its timed out at the end of the download. :(
I really hope this update doesn't screw up and require me to restore like the last 2..

3rd time mine has timed out downloading, I'm getting a bit annoyed here.. is there a way to manually download it?

I'm testing out the "wipe data after 10 failed passcode attempts" feature. Would have liked remote wipe (a la Exchange) but this should do the trick.

No issues so far.
