iPhone 2.1 Software

Fixed mine. Removed v8. Installed 7.7.1 which worked. Then upgraded again. Now it works on v8. Nothing changed on my system during this process other than Itunes being removed and reinstalled.

i assume they fixed the lock code vulnerability? (being able to hit Home whilst device is locked to access Favourites and beyond)

Can confirmed that 3G reception has improved a lot since update, getting full bars of 3G in my room as with the last firmware but now I get 2-3 bars of 3G signal at work where I could normally not receive 3G signal at all.

Well if anyone has trouble downloading from iTunes, I just downloaded the .ipsw directly and the update worked fine.

I'm testing out the "wipe data after 10 failed passcode attempts" feature. Would have liked remote wipe (a la Exchange) but this should do the trick.

No issues so far.

Ha, does it say "WARNING- This will take 2 hours" like it does when you wipe it manually? :)

"try again in 60 minutes" after the 7th (I think) attempt.

I really was hoping it would just do it all in one go, bit naff giving someone hours with the device to try other methods of breaking in.

That said, it prevents the obligatory mate playing with your phone in the pub "oops" ;)

I like the new Edge icon :)

just updated my 2.02 winpwned + unlocked 2g version to 2.1 and I am impressed. Texting is so much better now, email opens quickly and safari feels more responsive. So far I will give it a thumbs up and my unlock stayed in place. Have lost cydria but I wasn't using that much anyway.

I was suspicious of the statement regarding the battery life but I think they were telling the truth....I've been using my phone more than normal tonight to put it through its paces and the battery seems to be holding up MUCH better!!

I think they have idle'd the wireless when not in use now (by default) ....not sure though?

But yeah things seem to be running much smoother...

this is a big improvement over the earler 2.0 versions and my phone is just about although not quite as reliable as it was under 1.1.4

Another thing I have noticed is that three clicks on the headphone clicked now skips backwards.

I only got my iPhone today so the first thing I did was get this update. Wasn't a problem updating and so far so good using it. Can't complain really - I'm very impressed with it. :)
However, I didn't experience it with previous firmware versions though so I'm not familiar with any problems that may have occurred in the past.

Can I go straight from 1.1.4 on my ziphoned 2g iphone to 2.1? I'm assuming winpwn works with this still as super_tigers mentioned his is 2g?

It isn't that. My itunes on x64 has failed to recognise the 3G 4x times so far. A reboot was the only way to sort it.

I swear you're the only person on here who has so many problems with their phone. It's either you, or you've got a dodgy phone.

I honestly don't see how the hell you've managed to get a phone which is as 'bad' as yours is!

Nothing technically wrong with the phone. If it did what it was supposed to then I'd have no issues. What are these 'so many' problems you speak of?

* I've complained about text/contact lag like everyone else.
* I've lost about a dozen emails because this thing can't decide weather it is connected to the net as described on MacRumours as a BUG.
* I've complained about a crap signal in areas like London.

Oh wow, 3 problems in which almost everyone has complained about. If I've got a dodgy phone, then by your words so does everyone else. I use this phone to keep in touch with suppliers and I am losing business and work time because of it. This iTunes issue is just like text lag that people said they 'weren't getting' - and then it suddenly hit them.
