I must admit, I need to have a moan about battery also.

I fully charged my iPhone 4 all day, battery at 100%, went to bed (11:30pm) got up (7:30am) and battery is dead. This happens most nights now. I have WiFi turned off but 3G on (I don't see how you can design a phone where I need to turn 3G on and off to make the battery last in standby all night!!

Day time, with very light usage I normally can get to about 3:30pm before it dies on me.

This seemed a touch ridiculous, so I've ordered a replacement from Vodafone, will see how this one performs. If it is the same then I'm sending the thing back.

Well clearly there's something wrong with it if yours uses 50x the power of mine on standby :p

The proximity sensor being too sensitive and turning on when you have the phone to your ear, which can do things like hang up the call, turn on loudspeaker, etc.

I've got this

Really ****ing me off, I haven't hung up a call yet but it's annoying seeing the light come on at night when I'm on the phone

Still having the no Sim issue, just had it happen while the phone was in my pocket, and didn't realise until someone emailed me asking why my phone wasn't on!

Personally I've had zero problems at all, but I have heard anecdotal evidence of people being refunded for bumpers they bought to resolve the signal issue - thought that might be of interest to someone...

Completely thorough analysis of the iPhone's antenna problems. Long and short of it, it's a software and hardware problem, but fixable (Or negateable) by software.

My summary:

5 bars strength = -51 to -91db.
4 bars = -91 to -101
3 bars = -101 to -103
2 bars = -103 to -107
1 bar = -107 to -113
0 bars = Less than -113.

Signal drop when touching that part of the antenna = 24db.

So, if you are in a super strong signal strength area, your signal might be -52, so a drop of 24 would make it -76, which is still 5 bars.

If you are in a weaker signal area with five bars (ie. -90db), a 24db drop would put it at -114db, which is 0 bars, and the point at which the iPhone baseband drops the call.

The thing is:

Because of the improved antenna system, Apple raised the threshholds from the 3GS, so 1-2 bars on the iPhone 4 is equivalent to 4-5 bars on the 3GS.

So Apple could put out a software update lowering the threshholds so that the baseband drops the call at a lower number. :)

I have a tiny piece of dust/fluff trapped between the camera and the back cover. It's on the top edge and doesn't seem to affect the camera in any way.

Curse me and my obsessive behaviour - I really want to take that back cover off to blow it out, but I know it'll either invalidate my warranty or I'll let in more dust.

That won't stop people dropping calls. According to Anand's data, the 3GS only drops 1.9dB when held naturally but the iPhone 4 drops 19.8dB. It might work better when you don't hold it but certainly doesn't when you do. Changing the thresholds now would be a bad PR move. It would make it look like Apple are trying to cover up the problem rather than fix it.

Popped into an Apple Store on my travels with my iPhone to ask about covers. At the same time I asked the guy what was happening about the connection problem, to which he answered 'what problem, there is no problem'. He then went on to explain that it was all to do with perception and the fact the phone has a much better signal than other phones and when held the signal simply gets degraded to that of other phones! He also said he hadn't seen one single example of it happening where all signal was lost.

So I pulled out my phone whilst we were chatting and cupped it in my left hand as if I was writing a text and we watched 3 bars turn to searching turn to no signal, to which his face dropped a bit :)

He then agreed to give me a Bumper at half price, but did add that this didn't in anyway state that Apple was admitting there was problem.

Anyway, nice chap and I was certainly happy not to be paying £25 for a band of rubber!

Did you backup a old Iphone and restore it to the iphone 4 as there appears to be an issue if you do this with the mail app consuming a lot of cpu and draining the battery quickly. You can fix this by deleting the mail accounts and adding them manually.

that guy obviously hasnt read the new guidelines for apple staff =P no giving out bumpers or admiting theres a problem! Apple is Perfect, Apple is Magical.....Apple is hiring antenna engineers! ....just fills you with confidence dont it? ;)

Not sure if this has already been mentioned in this thread but is anybody suffering with the proximity sensor issues? At first I thought it was user error until it started to manifest itself more frequently. A quick visit to a few of the sites who regularly update news on the iPhone seemed to have confirmed this as yet another issue with the phone.

Personally, I've accidentally put a few people on mute or on speakerphone and have accidently hung up too. The screen can sporadically activate when the phone is next to your cheek, upon which contacts the screen and activates the call option buttons. It seems a random problem, sometimes it does it, other times it doesn't, there doesn't seem to be any specific condition in which it happens.

This along with the signal 'issues' have really begun to cheese me off with this phone now. I tolerated the signal issues but this has added insult to the injury. It has spoilt what I initially considered a highly anticipated release and for me has nullified any enjoyment of its new features.

For some reason I don't see a software fix coming soon for any of the aformentioned problems either. :(
