You will definitely get a replacement, either from your carrier (if its on a contract), or from Apple directly.

Be warned the one from Apple *could* be a refurbished handset, so as someone at Orange suggested I do, cancel the current contract and send the phone back, and then take out a new one and get sent a new phone :p
 
i cant cancel the contract as *shock horror* its from Phone4U

so refurbed are avilable already? :(

mine was only made last week so i guess the factories havent stepped up their quality control....:mad:

You may be able to as its a faulty handset.

If not then they HAVE to replace it with a new one (make sure you state it has to be new).
 
cant see the free bumper happening.

Not when they still cant make them fast enough!

TBH i dont like the look of the bumper ayway!

I've been having the proximity sensor issues, as well as dust underneath the backside of the iphone, 1 speck under the camera lens (doesn't intrude into photos as far as I can tell) and 4 or 5 around the edge. Have one speck on the front too but it's not on the screen itself but near the earpiece. Any chance I will be able to get it replaced? Pretty annoyed really if I go there and they offer me a refurb only had it for 3 days.
 
the only difference on a refurb is the box, which most tend to bin anways. I wouldnt let that bother you. Anything that would leave it feeling second like marks etc.. gets replaced.

You genuinely cant tell. The only giveaway is the packaging.
 
hmmm I may just leave it, the few dust specks are on the backside and only visible if I go looking for it, I think it's just the thought of them being there that annoys me. The proximity sensor issue will probably not be fixed by a replacement so it may just be worth ignoring it...not sure what to do really.

Edit: Anyone managed to get a replacement without an appointment? Have one for tuesday, but it's pretty late in the evening would prefer to just turn up and sort it out.

Interestingly, the yellow screen problem doesn't just affect the blotch/line areas where the yellow is, the ENTIRE screen is a faint hint of yellow.

When I put my iPhone 4's next to one another, the working ones display is far more 'white' than the dodgy one, as well as the yellow guff on its screen.

(Tested on white backgrounds with identical brightness settings)
 
Sitting in the apple regent street store waiting to be seen, 1 hour wait past my 5:50pm appointment time due to them being behind a tad :p Hopefully can sort out my proximity sensor issues...it happens with every call I make now so I suspect mine either is faulty or particularly sensitive as none of my friends have this problem. And yes I am holding it flush to my face pretty much.

Edit: got a replacement, wasn't retail but a black box. Anyway the guy said they're most likely brand new due to the time it takes to refurb. I'm inclined to believe as it looks brand new, no dust under either the back or front glass like there was on my original. Regarding the proximity issue the guy did say the replacement may not fix it as there are unofficial reports from above that it is a software issue. He said I was the 4th person he'd dealt with who had the issue.

The new manufacturing method means dust under the screen isn't possible anymore. The IPS display is higher up in the iPhone 4, and the capacitive layers are bonded to the screen this time round, unlike previous when there was an empty layer between the two.
