iPhone 5 Tariffs

Hmm, am on Voda atm and may well upgrade. I get 30% discount on the contract so it actually works out cheaper to get the more expensive contracts with a lower up-front cost for the phone.

A 16GB one one on the 900mins/unlimited texts/1GB data contract over 12 months works out at a grand total of £685.40, which is only £76.40 more than buying the phone outright from Apple, so effectively £6.37 a month on top of the retail price for the service. On the same basis, the 32GB works out at £7.20 a month and the 64GB £5.53. Way cheaper than I could get by buying the phone and going SIM-only.

16gb is £529. Three is better value. £629 for 600/5000/1gb or 644 for 600/5000/ul. Lest you need those 300 extra mins, mind. (this is post cashback, fyi)

your wrong,

people dont get it. you cant compare a 12m with 24m.

it doesnt make sense. the 943 for example is spread over 24m making it manageable. whereas u have more money coming out in 12months

You can because in 12 months there might be better deals or in 12 months you might sell the phone at just under full cost making your contract next to nothing.

It depends what people want but I know fine well it's cheaper to buy the phone out right then put a sim in. You have to take into factors like future sales, new tariffs e.t.c. Also don't forget handset trade-ins when adding to the contract.

STOP QUOTING MY LINKS.

This depends entirely on your ability to manage money. I look at things over the long term and total cost rather than the month to month costs. I hope I never have to be someone who lives paycheque to paycheque, it makes things a lot harder!

Yep, why pay something over 24 months if it's going to cost more. This is what bank companies do. It's called APR for missing payments. Don't people get it? Phone companies are making a killing because people pay less every month to pay more over 18/24 months.

But on the other hand, if you can't offord an upfront payment then OK. Keep paying more for contracts.

Doesn't work out much cheaper, see below.

Not really.. there is not much in it. (depending on what sim)

and with contract your not coughing up £600 notes on the day.

The contract Ive gone with on Three Network - £37 x 24 + £89 = £977

Average Sim only with the same usage ~£15 x 24 + £599 = £959

a whopping £18 saving and your £511 out of pocket on the day.

Just called o2 to request my PAC code as was looking to move to Three to 600mins - 5000 txts and Unlimited DATA.

They instantly offered me Unlimited Txts and Calls, 500Mb date = 15.50 per month, 1 month Contact. Or same but 1gB, 12month contract = £20 per month.

Are we talking new users or users who have trade-in handsets or even deals for current loyalty?

A lot of factors that can effect it. I know if I was to upgrade I won't really pay much more maybe £100 extra one-off payment. As I would be trading my phone in but keeping my tariff unless there was better ones out there.

Also don't forget people sell their phones as unwanted upgrades, which again will pull the price down even further! I got my iPhone 4 sealed on release date for 150 pounds cheaper than the release price that was due to an unwanted upgrade and picked it up locally.

So if this happenes again I will get it even cheaper, probably a 1-1 swap for iPhone 4 to iPhone 5 at no extra cost. I will wait.

If its based on 12 months it's wrong, do it on 24 and its more.

24x £20 + iPhone 16GB £529 = £1,009.09
24x £26 + iPhone 16GB £529 = £1,153.00

I think its fair to say, people are looking at comparing prices here, no-one can predict tariffs etc. Not having a dig, just saying because I was wondering how you managed it and it didn't make sense mate.

@Rodneypooleg

I know where you are coming from. I agree, but people who go onto sim free phones are not looking over long term.

We certainly have different factors, which will effect prices.

1) Is the user a new customer?
2) Does the current user have a loyalty sceme?
3) Does the user have a high end phone they can sell and recoup the cost?
4) Does the user like long or short contracts?
5) Does the user use more/less phone calls, more/less texts, more or less data?
6) Does the user suffer from signal problems on certain providors?

I suggest that you review your maths, because this isn't correct. For the most expensive 24 months deals at least.

Take the top two prices for example. The ordinary cost:
47 per month 0 handset. 1128 total
42 per month, 49 handset. 1067

With a 50% saving on the monthly cost (I have these figures because that's the deal I get) the costs are:
23.5 per month, 0 handset. 564 total
21 per month, 49 handset. 553 total.

So you can see that the deal with an upfront cost is cheaper, even with a 50% reduction of the monthly cost. The 0 up front deal is even worse when % saving is lower.

The 37 per month and 99 upfront is cheaper again with 543 total, but this has slightly less data.

Hi guys. Just back from Three store (same numbers online).

New customers offered iPhone 5 32GB(on The Ultimate Internet Plan) at £37 a month plus £ 89 upfront. Thats £977 over 24 months
As an existing customer I was offered iPhone 5 32GB at £42 no cost. Thats £1008 over 24 months.
This is
So as an existing customer I have to pay more??? Am i missing something?
