Iphone 5 why so underwhelming?

But it's not the thinnest, or the lightest, nor does it have the best battery life. It gets slated because it simply doesn't stack up to the other phones that a lot of people desire now, especially so in this area of the forum. And rightly so, if people are looking for it to do something, and it doesn't, of course it will get slated for not doing it, that's simple fact.

As for your last paragraph, not a single one of those features is unique to an iphone, nor does it do all of them better than a lot of other offerings. Your post really comes across as badly as a lot of the android "fanboi" posts do, you're just arguing from the opposite team.

He said "one of the" not THE "thinnest lightest" ect. just let it go, it's a good phone, there are lots of good phones, WHO CARES?

I don't get why peoole are talking about wanting a major iOS GUI update.
iOS works great the way it is, changing it would be a bad idea unless something even simpler can be made.

Let's be honest, the SGS models (and other android phones) have ios style GUIs for a reason, it works. Whether you are 1 year old or 100 years old you can use an iOS device EASILY.
Why change that and risk alienating people?

I haven't seen a single better os on any other phone.

Dont think its about making iOS harder to use, as you say its easy for 1 to 100s

But they could allow those who want to to unlock additional features or provide skinable UI, icons etc,

yeah it works but I think the average iOS user is now looking for a little more customisation and options, especially when they see android and how its come on the past 3 years, this doesnt have to come at the expense of simplicity

No doubt apple will invent my idea and you'll have Apple DLC for advanced users!

Ford sell more cars than Ferrari, Lamborghini, Zonda, Maserati and Koenigsegg put together.

Does that make them "better" cars ?

No.

They may be more useful to some people, but they aren't "better".

Hah, what? You've made a point that didn't need to be made. Where did I say it was 'better'?

I said people may prefer it, not that it was better. I'm talking about the popularity/sales aspect.

I know this is the Android area of the forum but it seems that the people here bash iPhones incessantly and without fair comparison, it seems unless Apple released an Andriod phone no one would give it more than 1/5.
It seems that the iPhone is judged at so much of a higher benchmark than any other phone. People are slating it for not having NFC or wireless charging... Seriously? I have never seen anyone use or want either of those features any yet people seem to think iPhone is unusable because of the lack of them.

Meanwhile Apple produces one of the best built, thinnest, lighest, fastest phone with the best battery life. With by far the most apps, highest quality apps.
Apple has undisputably the best customer service and highest customer satisfaction.
Sure they cost slightly more but people are happy with their purchases.
So after all this they get called 'idiots' and 'sheeple' for buying what is consistantly one of the best 5 phones available, it's just silly.

And before it's said I'm not a fanboi or whatever they're called, yes i own an iphone but i considered all types of phone and settled on the iphone because i want a phone that just works, plays my music over bluetooth in my car, works fast, is decent quality and has a decent battery life.

Its the "best" to you.
Not to other people.

I personally don't really like their products. Its all about pretty shiny, rather than a functional device. All fur coat and no knickers one might say.

It doesn't help with they are so full of PR hype and hubris that then isn't lived up to. I have no interest in hot air.
And before you ask I'll give you an example - Apple rattle on about innovation constantly...
So erm, where is it ?
oooo you've got turn by turn nav on maps.. ummm sorta been done
then theres a 4" screen - uh huh
(as far as we know) Dual core underclocked processor - its all err.. well.. newish I spose..

As per the first page they don't bother because they know they'll sell a bucketload of them. I honestly think if they put Apple logos on turds people would buy them.
They do that because they have created this "society" of Apple, who can do no wrong, who make the best items in the world, ever.
And for that I have to tip my hat to them, superbly done and very clever.

Just not my (and many other peoples) cup of tea. At all.

So why are you attacking people who do like the products so aggressively?

Why do you care so much?

What do you stand to gain?

Does it make you feel better that your phone can do something that theirs can't?

It's replies like yours that just show how little your average person knows about selling a product or service. The nerdy arguing gets you nowhere.

I think this best sums up my feelings on the matter (was posted in another thread):

Apparently, the new iphone 5 16gb is £529 and the 64GB version is £699 if purchased outright - you could buy a laptop for that which does more! Even the Ipad does more.

As someone else has pointed out, there are other devices out there worth considering now which are cheaper and just as functional. And maybe some people are realising that each year Apple change a tiny amount in order to spend as little as possible in order to maximise profits.

You can buy a laptop for the same price as a Galaxy S3. Are they not worth bothering with either? I assume you're talking about all high end phones, and not just isolating the iPhone.

*sigh*

I didn't attack anyone.
I just pointed out that the posters opinion is just that, not fact.

The poster explained his reasoning, I explained mine.

I think we both have picked what we wanted and specified reasons.

Whats your issue with that ?

I'm not saying they're not bothering with. I'm saying they are expensive for what they are.

£500/600 is a lot for a phone if you don't use it that much/can't justify it, absolutely.

But on contracts you get minutes and so on thrown in (even though that makes it worse value overall, especially when it comes to the iPhone).

My issue is, I have a 3GS already, have had it for probably over 3 years - it does everything I want, e-mail, tinternet on the move, some music. When the 4 came out, the big thing was the retina screen, but it didn't tempt me to get one (the wife got one as it was her first iphone, so if that had been me I would have got that) and all I could see otherwise that was better was a faster processor. The 4s then came out and again, I think that was a faster processor and included Siri (which ended up being gimicky) so I didn't go for that. I can see now that the 5 is coming out, that again the specs appear to be a little better and it has a bigger screen. Personally I don't think I could justify it for the little gain I would get. Not to say that its a bad device and that people shouldn't get one. Plus I also fancy trying something new.

I may also look again if they have vastly revolutionised ios, but I don't know if they have?

Show me where he said "I think" or "In my view" etc.

Anyway, what is your problem exactly ? Why pick on me just because I don't agree with your view ?

The tone of his post made that quite clear I thought. He basically said he didn't get why it was being bashed when it's still one of the best phones - which is entirely fair enough.

I don't have a problem at all, I thought you did; taking something I said completely out of context, as you did in post #44.

Not really, they've just added to it.

TBH I would say 80% of the people who upgrade/buy an iPhone 5 really wont need the power of anything more then an iPhone 4. If you look at what I a lot of people do with their phones its doesn't need much at all. E.G my friends mom wanted a new phone and would only settle for the 4s, all she does on it is go on facebook/text/call that is it. For someone like that I think its crazy to be spending so much on such a highend powerful device.

The price for me is more of an issue when you want more storage, right now 64gb SD cards are dirt cheap but you need to pay almost £200 more for it when it cost them only £21 that is just down right lame :(, for many of us 16GB is getting far to small, after the OS, Apps, music I have filled up that 16gb (with the bear minimum amount of music) so I would need at least a 32gb model.

Lastly the iPhone tends to hold is value really well, it is one of the reason I don't feel to crazy spending so much on it. I have also noticed samsung phones hold their value too, the S2 gets me more on those recycling sites then even the One X.

Not really, they've just added to it.

Yeah, personally I think the 3G was the one which put Apple massively infront, they must have had the best designers, because the features they came up with and how they implemented them was genius.
