Am I missing something or are all the tariffs significantly more expensive than just buying the handset unlocked from Apple and picking a SIM-only plan? It would be nice if Apple offered their pay monthly for the phone plan over here.

My iPhone 5 32gb is getting a bit long in the tooth now, so I'm pretty much sold on the idea of a 6S.

Nope, they have been inflated since the beginning.

Fair enough. It just seems wrong that the network wouldn't be subsidising the handset costs any more and seems to want to charge a substantial premium for the service of allowing you to spread the costs of the device out.

As long as I'm not missing anything I'll probably order direct from Apple in the next few days. Feels strange to spend £600+ on a phone though in all honesty.

You are in effect creating your own contract, but without the hassle of a locked device or a long term contract with the carrier.

I did the sums last year, and it was at least £200 more over 2 years to go with a network provider as opposed to staying on 3 month to month and buying the handset from Apple. I took out a 0% over 22 months credit card last year and put the iPhone 6 on that. After using the money I got back for selling my iPhone 4 to pay some off upfront, it's costing me £20 a month in repayments.

Yeah I've done the sums and come to the same conclusion. The cashflow isn't an issue, it's the mental barrier I think. I just need to hit the button :p

It's a sound decision to buy outright if you can afford it, but your right it should feel odd forking over £600 or more for a phone, you can buy a Playstation 4, Xbox One, and a Wii U for the cost of that one tiny device that sits in your pocket.

I've got a back up Windows phone Nokia 535 or something, cost me £50 or thereabouts. To be honest, it does most of the tasks I require from day to day, and I don't miss my main phone that much at all.

Always a niggle... £600... :)

It works out more for most, even if you choose small om items, you still usually need a spare charger or a dock, a case, screen protectors. Then most won't go for the memory cripples 16gb versions, so the cost is easily £700, and that grants you no insurance cover, unless your bank account or home insurance might.

You don't get the extra chargers, cases, or bundled insurance if you decide to let your carrier supply the handset either though

So, at the moment I think my preorder may get automatically cancelled. In the rush to order I was paying with gift cards and apples system managed to let me use one twice and so now they are charging them their isn't enough credit to cover one order, and now after two calls to apple support, they still haven't been able to add the correct gift card number to the order and the six days to resolve payment are passing pretty quickly.

Has anyone else had payment issues that Apple support have actually been able to resolve over the phone?

Good point, it was vodaphone and the Samsung products, you got the standard, and a wireless charger throw in, and also insurance for the duration of your contract, not apple product at all.

Wife has always been with Apple's product lines, but given the disasters she has had with iphone5 batteries, she is seriously considering a Samsung future.

No, they are replacing 'some' iPhone 5 batteries for free.
They are then pulling the wool over everyone else's eyes and saying we'll take £59 please.
In a support chat last night, the Apple person the US told me I should start quoting UK consumer to apple UK support, which I found rather interesting.
Anyway we shall see.

Haven't had a iPhone since the 4 and have been using a SG3 for the last 3 years on a £12.90 all you can eat data sim only contract on Three. I now want to get a iPhone 6S Plus 128GB Grey but not sure about changing networks.

Options

1) Buy iPhone outright from Apple (currently showing 3 to 4 weeks) and keep my Three contract.
Pros - I can upgrade when i want, All you can eat data and no hassle changing network
Cons - £789 is allot to pay out in one go, Three doesn't have the greatest coverage

2) Take out a new Contract on EE unlimited/unlimited/5GB = £395 upfront and £32 for 24 months
Pros - £395 is more manageable and EE might be better than Three (never used more than 3GB in a month)
Cons - I have no idea when I'll receive the iPhone through affordablemobiles.co.uk, Won't have unlimited data anymore and EE could possibly be worse than Three

What should I do, any opinions and is that right that If i ordered from Apple I could be waiting 3 to 4 weeks for shipping?

PS I'm also hoping the 6S+ will completely replace my IPad Air, I have an Nvidia Sheild Tablet I can use for when I must use a tablet!

Looks like my O2 order has a tracking number. It shows as parceline but links to DPD where it shows as 'Your parcel is on its way' updated at 08:00 today.

Has anyone managed to play with an iphone6s yet? My whole buying decision is based on touch3d...is it just 3 levels of pressure or is it more of an analog value that will be useful in games.
