My american iphone went screwy about a week back, no audio except out of headphones (just the right hand side) or if the phone was in speaker mode when making a call. Bloody annoying as i liked the phone, repair is only posible if i have a relative in america that can do the return for me as uk support wont take anything to do with it (apparently due to them needing some special persmission from apple u.s as supposodly the american versions have some different components inside). 
Had it since last august 
Might try one of those uk sites that say they can fix it, ended up buying one of the phones on offer tonight anyway.
I also love how apple were tight assed enough NOT to include any headphones with the iphones in the uk now. Was told tonight in CW that theyve stopped putting headphones in the box even though theyre listed on the back and sure enough no headphones in the sealed box. And they expect people to pay £20 for the ones that should come with it, my arse. I'll stick to my sennheisers and a jack adaptor. Suprised how apple dont seem to have an official jack adaptor out as recessing the jack as much as they did to make headphones need some kind of third party attachment was just downright cheesy.
