iphone down to £169

I've just found a cool little feature, just by chance.

When you next compose a text message, hold your finger on part of the text and see what happens! :D

right, apologies for being slow but can people help answer these questions:

  • Which PAYG sim allows the purchase of EDGE
  • What does O2's simplicity offer, EDGE/GPRS
  • What does O2's PAYG Web bolt on provide, EDGE/GPRS

Cheers guys.

Guys now that the prices have plummeted on these i'm kind of interested in it for browsing use while im on the train to London. Questions is though... how fast is EDGE for general browsing, is it really dog slow compared to 3G?

have two months left on my k800i, can i buy an iphone now and put my sim straight into it? Then when its time to upgrade my contract just change it to the 02 simplicity? Or is it locked to the k800i?

Sorry, thought I'd answered this question before, must have been similar.

But yes, do this. When my N73 contract ran out in February, I switched to simplicity with the anticipation of getting an iPhone sometime. Got one after the price drop and slapped my SIM in it. Had the same SIM for about 4 years now :)

I'm not convinced this price cut is due to the allegedly imminent 3g model as it's only a few carriers doing it, and only on the 8gig.. even Apple themselves are still selling at full price. I read a quote from someone at o2 saying they'd basically removed their own markup to shakeup the slightly poor sales.

It's also normally Apple's style to just release new stuff and shaft everyone, rather than give people warning :)

theres probably a certain ammount of truth in that

but do you really think apple woud allow o2 to knock £100 off the retail price ? apple are well known for their tight control over retailers. Its one of the reasons why they will only deal with 1 provider per country. Apple will have sanctionned the cuts, and no doubt cut the wholesale price as well

because you can bet CPW wont be taking £100 hit per phone.

I believe CPW get a kickback per unit sold, rather than a markup, so they won't be taking a hit.

I'm not sure what kind of power Apple has with regards to the iPhone pricing.. it's a bit of a different kettle of fish to their normal hardware.

It's all guesswork anyway.. 100quid off is 100quid off and whatever the reasoning i'm happy :p

Well I bought it as I have had a Touch previously and love the simplicity and ease of use and at £169 i couldn't resist (specially as my Blackberry curve cost me £200). I was holding out for the 3G one but tbh I have wifi at work and I prefer to wait and see what happens with the 3G Iphone as I remember the Mess with the Ipod Touch Screens. Will leave it to other people to work out how good/bad the new phone is then make my decision.

Oh I also pwnaed my phone again and have a custom startup and restore pic now lol!! If anyone else wants one send me a pic that is 320x480 and i'll do the necessary stuff. Or if you have photoshop stroll on over to macrumours and see what you have to do to the pic to make it work.

Also the only disappointment with the phone is that i can not read my mobipocket ebooks :( Hope they use the SDK in june to make it possible.
