Iphone OS 3.0...

what about people that buy the 3g one on PAYG?? will they be given the chance to upgrade for a lesser price?

You bought the phone unsubstardised.. only chance you'd have is if you bought a 3G within a week of the newest model.

Even then, it'd require a moan-down-the-phone at Apple.

This is going to cause a stir...

"Upload video" appears in the 3.0 firmware, suggesting possible video capture abilities in the next model..

Hmm this is going to be a pain my contract expires Jan 2010. Sell my Iphone what month? Then buy this new one on PAYG but use my PAYM sim.

I'm part of the dev program and have it installed. To be honest, the new features are quite nice but I'm quite tempted to force-revert it back to 2.2 until there's a more stable release. Because I can't afford a seperate developer handset I may continue to develop pre-3.0 apps for the time being.

For anyone interested, there's a new build of the 3.0 beta available to developers. It's much snappier and well worth updating to if you're a developer. The updated SDK is quite a hefty download but now means you get to play with push notification at last.

Why all the talk of a new handset? The 3G aint even been out 12 months yet! Everyone on contract will have to wait till Jan 2010 at the earliest to go through proper upgrade procedures and I'm sure most countries have the same 18 month contract period. It's just seems like a bit of a stupid direction to go. I presume a handset update will be more of a battery upgrade or hardware update rather than new tech.

It doesn seem a bit daft to say the least what with the 3g still being so new. Trouble is, people are crying out for a decent camera and flash, may force the hand of apple to rush something out.

Cant believe how well the 2g model is still selling for second hand. I sold my yesterday for £257!, thats only a tenner less then what I paid for it on launch :D

I cant think of many other tech products that hold there value so well.

True. I'm just bitter becasue my iPhone is caseless and has had a few "OMG ITS LIKE SOAP!" moments before it hits the floor :D Selling it on to upgrade would be difficult.

A camera upgrade doesn't interest me though, and it appears Apple are going back on their eithos of giving us what we think we want regardless of what we want anyway.

it was shocking enough that the phone was released with the camera in the state its in anyway. let alone going into its 3rd generation without a single update.
phone cameras without flash simply aren't worth while having.
If you're using a phone camera chances are you're out somewhere like at night on a night out where you only carry your wallet and phone... to stick it with a awful camera with no illumination is just plain ridiculious.

Well you would say that, you are obsessed with photography.

Compared to a proper compact, all phones in my experience suck.

If the occasion is important enough, my SLR comes along, otherwise my mates compacts do the job just fine!

I wouldn't be bothered at ALL if they removed it completely.

Whatever this new phone is in June. Im getting it :D

My camera on my phone is awesome 3.1mp, has a proper focus.
My mate a sony Ericson thing, and its got something like an 8mp and a proper zoom on it!
Really hope the iPhone gets a decent camera as its miles behind the rest out there.

We're not the only country in the world to have iPhones. It looks as though the new model will be released around two years after the original. AT&T iPhone contracts are two years so there will be a lot of people who have the original who are looking to upgrade just as the new model appears.

A 12 month old phone is dated. The iPhone runs some very dated hardware in what is such a fast paced market. The market just moves so fast. For example the iphone does not even have HSDPA, which is quite sad considering main stream 3G phones in early 2007 had it.

Wrong, the iPhone 3G does have HSDPA! Where do people get this rubbish from?!
