iPhone SE 2020

Apple may get 4 years of updates but as every year goes by it will get slower and slower. I remember my iPhone 4 days, it was virtually unusable by time I made the switch to Android. I'd never by an Apple product again.

Like what has already been said, they are targeted at a market who must have Apple or Samsung.

Wow, looks like I missed the argument. I wont start it up again, but believe I lean towards @Raymond Lin side of things.

Having said that, my opinion so far, if it was an Android device you'd be paying no more than £180 to £230 for it. I think Apple are smart to come down to this market though, yes, they will sell loads, a bit like how popular the Pixel 3a is.

If it was an android device it would cost £1500 because the top end Qualcomm chips have such a high licensing fee and they would finally have the fastest mobile chip

narh, you won’t find a snap dragon 865 in a £180 phone!

that was before, it’s cheap changed now, to do with the battery.

You just don't get it, I repeat what I said earlier. Agree to disagree. I am not going to waste anymore time on this, this isn't a thread for it anyway.

But my opinion is that you are wrong.

I totally agree Raymond. I sell phones and have sold quite a few of the new SE last week. My customers couldn’t care one jot what’s in the phone but when I tell them it’s just been released, looks like their current phone and has a good camera for £400, I don’t have to say anymore.

One of my customers called me yesterday, she had broken her iPhone 7 and wanted a new phone. Money is not an issue for her, she owns a large firm and has a kit fund with my business for new phones. I explained the options, emailed her links to all the phones but she chose a red 128Gb SE. It’s a great choice for her and I’m glad it’s one Apple offers.

Another of my customers has 400 iPhones and we have up until now been sourcing iPhone 8’s as they don’t want to stretch to XR’s so again this is perfect.

This SE has a perfect place in the market. Cheap apple. They had to make some sacrifices to make it this price. People don't always want the latest and greatest. It does the job well. I'm an Android guy but was an apple guy. I hold nothing against either. Seeing the prices of 2nd hand androids is sucking on comparison plus androids aren't normal supported as long.

in my opinion the SE is a cracking phone for £400 and apple are going to have no problem shifting tons of them.

I would go so far as to say that. I bet the margins on the SE are huge as a percentage of the asking price. The SE will stir up the market but Apple could have easily fit a full HD OLED into the SE and still made a healthy percentage. The reason they didn't is because, like the vanilla 11, they need to keep their halo Pro models distinct from the pleb models.

Putting OLED into the SE would require getting a new OLED into the phone, which require tooling and research and also buying that frmo Samsung.

the IPS LCD in there now is old existing tech, no need tooling, much cheaper to buy and allow them to hit this £399 price point. They probably could put in OLED, but no doubt to keep the same profit margin, the phone will cost more.

Some people never consider that. They just want Apple to make less or no profit margin.

I responded to the statement that apple had made compromises to hit a £419 price point, which is unlikely in the case of the SE. And businesses are flexible with their profit margins all the time. The suggestion apple would make "no profit margin" was your exaggeration.
