This is happening in this universe is it? It's not something I have experienced in my use of Android at all.

Yes, in this universe.

Applications being able to reset notification prefs without launching is an ongoing issue for two years now.

So is problem of self respawning full screen ads initialised by an app (often as subprocess) going on for over half a year now. Due to lack of vetting in play store app can not only launch ads as subprocess, but also has ability to override parent app settings - so for example if you launched a game with volume turned off/muted, an ad between levels can use a bug (app volume vs system volume vs media volume) to re-enable audio to play a video for example. This happens even in Angry Birds and EA games these days. The app with such behaviour is effectively legal malware as it removes or overrides control of the device for its own benefit. It also actively steals bandwidth (considering most of the providers offer limited data packages and we pay for it).

Because terms and conditions allow apps to exist solely as ad sponsored versions, Navigation Apps like Waze started using drop down ads on top of navigation while on move, and you can't pay to get rid of them.

After resurgence of anti popup apps for non-rooted devices to control popups and ads outside of browsers, google's response was to ban all of them from play store.

(puts on Duncan Bannatyne pout) "and for those reasons I'm out".

Having put a ruler against both the 5s and the Z3C there is a massive difference of 1/2 an inch? I can't see how you can be 'bored' with Android any more than you can be bored with iOS, OS X, Windows or Linux. They are simply the engine that allows you to use the features on your phone.

The untimely updates remark has me equally perplexed.

Once again, a detail you seem to be ignoring is that I have a Z3 not a Z3 compact.

How long has Android 6 been out now? Do I have it on my z3 yet? Nope. IOS 9.whatever has come out, and guess what - my 4 year old 4s has it already.

Edit 2 : And yes I could have a Nexus which gets updates quickly - but once again I don't want that size phone anymore.

Reports that for me!

It looks like a 4 crossed with a 5s. Not a bad thing...

I actually wanted a smaller phone but settled for the 6 in the end. If this had come out a few months sooner I'd have considered it.

It does beg the question if you like small phones why you ever went for a phablet instead of the diminutive Z3C in the first place. Just an observation though your logic has me confused.

Ok so you finally realise I've got a z3 and not the compact! Now if you just read my reply again you'll see that I don't want a phablet anymore... This implies that I did when I got it. Now I don't.....
Google don't do a compact handset for me to get the regular updates I desire, hence me also mentioning that.

Its tricky to tell this apart from the dated 5S, still I might consider getting one as I prefer smaller phones.. a different design & slightly bigger screen would have been nice though..

Having the 5S case/accessories compatibility is a good thing I suppose :p

You already own what is commonly recognised as the best Android phone on the market i.e. the Xperia so not sure why you keeping talking about Nexus, Google and updates et al. The Z5 has received rave reviews.

However, it is your money to waste not mine though you don't seem to know what you do actually want and flitter from one gadget to the next.

You could be on to something, they could call it the 6S!

I was thinking more like 4.3" without increasing the size of the phone, touch ID on the back:

It is my money you're quite right, but I certainly don't flitter from one gadget to the next... Quite the opposite infact. Had my 4s for three years and the se should last the same.
