Hey all,

Looking on the net the Regent Street store (London) has some HUGE black curtains up.. looks like they're hiding something pretty big.

It's circulating that they have stock and the iPhone will ship tomorrow :D

Anyway, here are the pictures..

Anyone else planning on buying tomorrow (if they're launching) ??

Mobile operator O2 is preparing to unveil Apple's much anticipated iPhone in the UK tomorrow. But serious questions are being raised in the City about how much ground it has had to give away to Apple in order to clinch the deal.

More info: The Guardian

It'll be interesting to know how much they'll be selling for and what sort of deals are on offer :)

BeatMaster :D

i'd totally love to get one but will have to see what the o2 tariffs are like - my existing o2 account is just about to expire so having a new account with new iphone could be nice! I am guessing that the tariffs wont be cheap though to support all the data transfer and stuff.

if it's 3g (hopefully hsdpa) and 16gb I'd be very tempted as my vodafone contract is up and I could be tempted to switch to o2. My decision will ultimately depend on price, I'm used to free phones given I'm on a high tariff and spend quite heavily, so paying £200+ on top of an 18 or 24month contract will be a bitter pill to swallow for me.

If it's edge and 8gb I'm simply not interested.

Are you going to have to pay a contract with O2 like the Americans do with AT&T?

Im guessing there will be some kind of software hack or something soon so you can use it as Pay as you go sim card. If there is I may be tempted to buy one.

As far as I know you can't buy a sim-free version so even if you can unlock it you'll still have to pay the line rental for the contract you bought it with, rendering unlocking to PAYG a bit pointless imo.

Not quite. In the US you go and buy an iPhone from an Apple/AT&T store for $399, take it home and plug it into your mac/pc and then activate it and arrange your tariff.

It's not like here where you buy into a contract and get a subsidised phone.

So it's not sim free... and you aren't tied into a contract the second you buy it... but it's locked to AT&T... if that makes sense.

If it does end up being EDGE & 8GB you'd be pretty foolish to be an early adopter imo, look what happened in the States.

I'm sure that won't stop some people from buying it though - let's face it a portion of the community would buy one even if it was just an empty shell.

Have you seen O2's 3G coverage?

It's basically London or nothing, check their site :(

I've been looking and the online 25 tariff would be perfect if it included unlimited data.

Its almost certainly not going to be 3G. The specs will be identical to the US version.

I also fully expect O2 to announce revised tarrifs so I wouldnt bother gauging your interest on the current ones.

Lucky I live in london then ;P

In all seriousness though, 3g on o2 is sketchy at best from my previous experience, and it would be difficult to give up vodafones excellent 3g coverage for o2.

I'm somewhat torn... Do I really want something that screams "MUG ME" near my ear?

That, however, isn't the main reason to hold off. Either way, I'll wait it out until February or so... ;)

Would love one of these. Yes other phones do bits of it better, but this just seems complete article in terms of integration of all aspects of mobiles/media/internet to me.

We'll see what the price is though! :)

I can understand why you might not want to be forced into O2, but trying to use this thing without some sort of data plan is going to end up with you spending a lot more than a contract price per month. And if you don't plan on using a lot of data then what's the point in having the phone?

I don't think it will be 3G not that it would matter to me personally. If the price of the phone was reasonable and I could be sure of unlocking it straight away I might be tempted, however I really don't need or want a contract phone.

Its been reported that O2 have agreed to give up 40% of their iphone revenues to Apple and so they are going to be keen to claw that back one way or another and the only way they will be able to do that is to gouge their customers :(

I get 3G in York and Leeds, and some places in Hull on O2, it can't be that bad!

Not sure whether I'll get an iPhone yet, my contract is up for renewal in December so I'll have had chance to play with one by then!
