Hey all,

Looking on the net the Regent Street store (London) has some HUGE black curtains up.. looks like they're hiding something pretty big.

It's circulating that they have stock and the iPhone will ship tomorrow :D

Anyway, here are the pictures..

Anyone else planning on buying tomorrow (if they're launching) ??

if it's 3g (hopefully hsdpa) and 16gb I'd be very tempted as my vodafone contract is up and I could be tempted to switch to o2. My decision will ultimately depend on price, I'm used to free phones given I'm on a high tariff and spend quite heavily, so paying £200+ on top of an 18 or 24month contract will be a bitter pill to swallow for me.

If it's edge and 8gb I'm simply not interested.
Have you seen O2's 3G coverage?

It's basically London or nothing, check their site :(

I've been looking and the online 25 tariff would be perfect if it included unlimited data.

"We picked the best one, the most poplular carrier, it's O2. We've since lowered the price of the US phone of the 8GB phone, in the UK the price of the iPhone is £269 including VAT.

It goes on sale November 9. "We've been thinking about what kind of ads to run for the iPhone, we need to get out of way and let the iPhone speak for itself." They've got a version in the UK: "Do you want to see them?" Applause. ... aaaand they're the same ads as the US, just with British voiceover."

:(

I'm not too fussed about 3G as I know 02 coverage (for 3G) in my area is little to none.

I'm just a bit gutted they're not launching for ANOTHER 2 months yet they seem to want to charge just as much as the handset the US has had for 2 months already, what a joke.

I challenge anyone to physically look at 1400 pages on their phone; moreso in a SINGLE day.

If that's the case you'll easily be able to get on to some kind of wi fi network if you're at home or in work.

10:37 - Q: £900 for 18 months on up to £1260. Any assurance you won't slash the price by 1/3rd? (Laughter.)

Steve: "I don't think that's going to happen. But this is technology so you never know. We have no plans to change the pricing, but we guarantee it will change in the future just like all technology products. We're working on the next iPhone and the next one after that. That's what our customers expect."
That's going to restore confidence to the early adopters :o

02 site is back up.

Just saw the tariff now;

£35 a month,
200 Minutes
200 Messages
Unlimtied Data* (looks like 4GB a month).

Here's hoping they allow you to use you exisiting pay-monthly 02 sim inside because those tariffs are COMPLETE CRAP, and I only want to use WiFi; I don't fancy being raped because they're pushing the unlimited data angle.

I can see where nero120 is coming from; it is a decent bit of engineering.

I love the interface, and the design; it's just a shame the MMS and other minor things have tarnished what could have been a much better product.

Unless 02 can rollout a minimum of 75% 3G coverage then it's going to be pointless waiting for the next iPhone, and that's the reason I'm not waiting.

It seems that most people who are arguing against the iPhone either own or currently plan on owning a Nokia N95, which is fair enough.

Personally, I'm undecided about getting an iPhone and I don't think I will get a N95 (battery life ?!), but my logic is; if you like it, buy it.

Just see a few people taking it too personal that someone does/doesn't want the iPhone.

The argument of "it's limited" is irrelevant if that person already has their mind set on buying it. I hate to use a car analogy, but it's like saying "oh, why are you buying that Lamborghini Gallardo.. it doesn't even do 10mpg" or "Why do you want that Porsche GTR3... it has no carpets". If people like it they'll buy it.. I imagine this is the case with the iPhone.

I suppose the internet is a different place to "real life", most of the posters here know the ins and outs of the iPhone, but average joe or josephine is only going to worry about one thing; the price. It could have a battery life of 49hrs but if it's £300 they won't buy it. This is where it will fail.. on the other hand, they might buy it for the "street cred", and if that's their main aim then who is anyone to knock them?

I won't be buying until the new year unless they're a price drop, but if people really want to buy it and use their own money then go ahead :o

I don't understand arguments against 3G since my K800i's battery lasts ages, it's not a large phone and it's years old.
..but your K800i doesnt have a large touch screen + (Wifi?) ;)

The iPhone was a revolution in presentation and design.

The multitouch, accelerometer and swank interface blew everything out of the water when it came out.. it's only recently (since June) that other manufacturers are implementing the same tech with varying results.

Anyone who can't admit that obviously hasn't used one, or is simply too bitter to admit it, i'm sorry.

Also, the price of the N95 on launch was pretty expensive.. and that thing has the WORST battery ever.

I think it's good that it's not free, but I wish you could pick another 02 Tariff to use with it.

After all, if it was free on contract you'd get all the 16,17 year olds with an iPhone and it would seriously bring the "cool" factor down.

I might ring up 02 in a week and ask them about alternative tariffs.

I wasn't saying you were bitter specifically, just some people got a bit personal about the whole thing (again, not naming names) :o

I'm not here to start a flame war, but the N95 battery is *said* to last about 2 days if you're a power user.. however, my point was the battery of the iPhone is generally better. Also, all the arguments against the iPhone mentioned the N95, hence my targeted argument.

As for the LG Prada.. well, I wouldn't get, it but it does look similar.

Well if it's anything like the iPod Touch then a firmware update is going to ruin ALL the hackers previous efforts.

AFAIK the iPod Touch firmware rendered all previous hacks useless.. they can't even jailbreak it anymore.

I'd say if you want to hack the iPhone UK then wait a few weeks after launch to see what the situation is; otherwise you might just get stuck.

I'll almost certainly get one if it becomes available on pay-as-you-go.

That won't happen (legally) in the first year.

Apple have said that it's pay monthly-only, so expect to wait if you're set on the PAYG iPhone.

Wether a standard 02 PAYG SIM will work is anyone's guess.. I'd imagine it would, but things like Visual Voicemail wouldn't work, but that's speculation so you'd need to confirm it with 02 before buying the phone.

The iphone looks to be a nice phone thats for sure but features wise im not so sure about it. Too many things missing as mentioned before have completely put me off the iphone as it is and i was thinking earlier this yr when it was announced that i would ditch my tmobile contract and go back to O2. But the price is silly for what it is tbh, dont get me wrong i like Apple but i think they have completely and utterly got it wrong...i cant see how a phone without 3G is going to be of any use...it wont for me as i do use 3G quite a bit on my n95 ie web-browsing etc. Perhaps if they bring out a 3G version then i might be tempted to get one. But at the moment im sticking with my n95, it may not have a great battery life but it does everything i could want it to and more...plus the new n95 is out soon so im looking at getting one of those to replace the n95 i have now.

On another note though, O2 have announced a flate rate data plan, which will be released in Oct this yr...looks like its going to be £7.50 a month for 200mb of data included although if you want more it will cost £30 a month for the truly unlimited data plan.

Do 02 actually have a 3G network in your area?

Not trying to have a go, but many people who've moaned about the lack of 3G haven't checked if 02 actually cover their area, a bit like the EDGE situation now.
