It's a bit annoying, I have lost some stuff I purchased (TV shows mainly) and I can't download them again because it's strictly 1-download-per-purchase :(

Dispite EVH telling me a thousand times how to do it I still had troubles but I now know why.

Anyway this method does work

1. Create a ringtone as mp3 (less than 30 seconds long).
2. Import into iTunes.
3. Convert to ACC.
4. Rename extension to m4r.
5. Drag the file into the ringtones folder.

You can then sync your custom ringtone with your iPhone

iTunes 7.5.0.20
iPhone 1.1.2

Excellent! I guess it was just the length of the tones that was the problem :)

Roll on custom tones..

I need some help guys, have had my iPhone since Tuesday and its constantly crashing :(. Its an official one from O2 all activated etc, was working well for two days then on Thursday evening it crashed whilst i was using Youtube and browsing the net. Then this morning it woke me up (as usual) but then i overslept as it had crashed when i pressed snooze!

Now this evening i can hardly do anything without it freezing/locking up completely and i have to hold the power button and home buttons to reset it, then about 1/5 times it will work so i can enter my pin code but the other 4 times it doesnt react at all to my screen presses or to the volume/mute buttons etc..just completed crashes. Have also tried the factory reset options and after erasing absolutely everything its crashing every few seconds!

Really need help - is my best option to return it under the 14 day thing if i can?

They'll swap it over if you take it back to the shop you got it from.

If they don't just get a refund on the 14 day grace period, I can't see it being a problem though.

Also, sorry to hear about your issues. I've had a few Safari crashes, but that's because I'm impatient and insist on hammering the keyboard whilst it's loading a page :D;)

I actually took my first one back to 02 (not online).

Said I didn't want it and the refunded me no questions asked.

(Actually swapped sims with my spare iPhone and took it back because I scratched the metal and wanted another), just got another from the CPW across the road, and kept my original SIM.

All activated fine, and been keeping it scratch-free since

can you not install applications if your phone is not hacked??

I pay on the o2 contract for mine

Yes, but you have to Jailbreak the iPhone to install apps.

You can then go a step further and unlock the phone once it's jailbroken, however, this is a secondary stage.. you can jailbreak the iPhone and keep using your O2 SIM without unlocking if you choose.

Either way, Jailbreaking it is essential :)

I've heard of issues concerning the WiFi but not making calls.

You always have the 14 day return policy if you bought from 02 (to save you) ;)

Here's a thought.. if you just restore it in iTunes so it's like-new then can't you just ring up Apple and say you've been having problems getting a signal?

You might be lucky and get them to replace the handset under warranty.

This is what I was hoping to be able to do if i couldn't fix it myself. I'm thinking about doing it but quite scared that they may have seen this before on hacked iphones, and just void my warranty there and then after a bit of digging in the files that don't get restored and seeing they've been changed, as there's obviously some that have been change or this problem wouldn't persist over all of the updates, downgrades etc. :(

Where should I go? The Carphone warehouse where i bought it, or the O2 shop in town?

Well I don't think the 02 shop will help you, I'd try CPW.

CPW probably won't be technically trained, and either a) Tell you to try Apple direct b) replace it on the spot c) Be ignorant and mention the insurance you didn't take out, and not help you.

I can't see them knowing how it's broke.. just claim ignorance!

I'm going France next year, can i pick up an unlocked iPhone from there? I'm on o2 PAYG in the uk so i should'nt think it's a problem. Also, what is the price like for a unlocked phone over there? Any disadvantages etc?

Apparently the French iPhone is country-locked.

Meaning, you can unlock it (and use it on any network in France for an extra 100 Euro) but you won't be able to use GSM networks outside France.

.. you can always try to set the outgoing port to 587 if you're having issues sending.

I have heard NTL are terrible at allowing you to set up POP accounts. Blocking ports on their servers unless you're on your home IP.. don't quote me.

It's easy to make your own ringtones, the guide is actually in this thread, I'll update those who have missed it :D
1) Cut your selected song to a 40 second clip (or less) using Quicktime, Garageband, or any audio editor of your choice

2) Save as xxx.mp3

3) Import xxx.mp3 in to iTunes

4) Change your iTunes preferences so that your "import" settings are now set to AAC

5) Find and right-click the xxx.mp3 you just added; choose "Convert selection to AAC"

6) Now go open Finder and navigate to the AAC file you just made (it will be called xxx.m4a)

7) Rename file from xxx.m4a to xxx.m4r

8) Click confirm when a dialog box pops up warning about changing file extensions

9) Drag the .m4r file out of the iTunes folder and on to the desktop

10) Double click the file on the desktop and BOOM, a new ringtone appears in iTunes. Sync iPhone to add it.

Does anyone have any recomendations on software to convert videos for the iphone

For the money (£11) I'd recommend Visual Hub. It is a brilliant app.

iSquint is it's little brother and can be had free (has limited functionality in comparison)

I shall be happy with simplicity. ;-)

It won't be a 3G iPhone.. just a boost in GB (to 16GB) if anything, and that's unlikely unless they bump the iPod Touch to 32GB.

hey up,

just bought my iphone. got a £45 tarrif (work pays for it so figured why not).. only problem is, its registered, number confirmed etc.. But the phone isnt getting any signal, does it take a considerable amount of time once registered for it to work or not.

Any ideas would b appreciated and I'm sorry if this has already been covered.

Will

I was trying to jailbreak my "legit" iPhone and even when I restored it to 1.1.2 it would take a few hours to "activate" in iTunes.

I can only assume it's because 02 blocked my number for a certain time.. next morning I switched it on and it was fine, and has been fine since
