You carry the iPhone home and sort it out in iTunes.

There will be an option for existing customers :)

Apple iPhone: Liveblog : Those crazy people at TUAW are already queuing outside Regents Street!

I wouldn't like to be there right now.. imagine the chill, nevermind the humility.

I'm estimating the stores will have a good 50 or so handsets, with the flagship getting close to 100-150 possibly even 200.

You could easily walk in Saturday and get one.

The whole "Cult of Mac" really scares me, and I mean really. It really is a cult, and it makes about as much sense as Waco did. I really can't understand or rationalise being so blindly obsessed with any commercial organisation. Queueing up for something that's going to be available nationwide anyway, talking about "the experience" of buying a ****ing phone, etc.

Ugh.

Some people are equally fanatical about the PS3, XBox 360 etc, but I understand what you're saying.

iPod Touch 1.1.2 firmware already hacked ;)

I've overcome that I'll never fit my collection on the iPhone.

I'll just create a randomised smart playlist and pop on enough songs to fill it :)

Just sell the iPhone with the SIM and tell your friends & family about the sale OR unlock the iPhone and sell it SIM-Free :)

Anyone going down today then? I demand pics!

Yes, I suppose it would.. unless you rung up 02 and told them you'd sold it.

Yeah I'm getting bored of that too.

ONe question I've missed though. Do we have to buy with a card like the US?

Not sure about cards, but there is a 2-per-customer limit.

I see what you're saying Oliver, but if you buy-out of your contract then 02 are forced to untie the handset from your billing details. (I would think).

I actually had £500 in 50's yesterday.. good job I banked it :)

I seriously didn't think they'd make it card-only in the UK too.

They hardly need to take down the whole shop for that.. they could have updated it at 6pm (just the iPhone section) and they would have been fine.

So who's got one?

I just got back.

Luckily my girlfriend was in town already and she saved my place (2nd) in the queue. I got there about 5:50pm so didn't have to wait long :)

Walked through the doors at 6:02pm and straight to the till, ended up buying 2 (1 to unlock). When asked why I wanted two for myself I just said "Buy one, sell one unlocked".. should have seen the look the girl gave me! lol

Got a free box of sweets and some hand-warmers.

Atmosphere was good, a lot of banter with the Phones4u shop across the street :D

If you bought 2, have you signed two contracts? This is the thing I don't get about unlocking them, surely you're paying the contract anyway?
I did nothing, I handed over my card and bought them like I would with an iPod.

** YOU SET THE CONTRACT & ACTIVATION UP IN iTUNES!! **

Just so people know :D;):p

The iTV news story on about 15 minutes ago showed an iPhone unlocker publically stating that it's "Easy to unlock, and won't break your iPhone like Apple claim".

Interesting that they were trying to make Apple out to be the bad guy because they've locked it to the 02 network.

Oh, and the reason it was 6:02pm? The girl in the 02 store said it's because it was 02's 6th anniversary :rolleyes:

So I could just use my existing O2 contract?

Yes, but you would need to activate it in iTunes if you want it to work *legally*.. you can't pop the SIM in and expect it to work.

You could hack it and pop it in without activating if you'd rather..

Next week is actually the 6th anniversary of O2 being O2 according to wiki, so it might hold some element of truth :)

Either Wiki is wrong, or she was told that to make her feel better.

Is anyone else having problems seeing their phone number when they connect to iTunes?

I've got an email from 02 saying it's activated, but under phone number (iTunes) it just says n/a :confused:

I assume it will come in time..

FYI: Rename any .m4a file to .m4r and you've got yourself a free ringtone that can be synced to the iPhone

It will show up in iTunes by simply double-clicking the file itself :cool:

Remember;

m4a = audio
m4r = ringtone

That is all.

Thing is when I add one of these to my cart on o2, it does not require to add a contract to the item. I can order it for £269 without the contract, which means I could just unlock it and put my existing sim in. I might order one just to see what happenes.
