iPhone V2.0??

Ok, so I don't need GPS, don't particularly need a better camera than the one it already has, and chances of me taking video are quite low anyway... I want it mainly for being a media player, being small, and the fact that I can go on the 'net with it. So is there any point in me waiting?

That depends on how large your media collection is and where you intend to use the Internet from (somewhere with a wifi access point or on the move).

Large media collection and I'm not totally sure. I'm moving to London in a few months, which I'm guessing has a wide WiFi network? Any ideas how wide the coverage is, i.e. could I connect outside? Other than when I'm lost I doubt I'd use it when on the move.

Which network would have the best tariff? Data tariffs seem really expensive (£7.50 on O2 for only WiFi or only web - it's one or the other).

BT do one now from their 'Fusion'/'Openzone' access points i think? There was something about it within a Home Broadband package i installed yesterday, Theres a map of coverage for 'Openzone' on their website, unsure its correct name, exact coverage or whats included tho... :)

iPhone v1 was *very* lacking in features, which mobiles from 5 years ago had as standard (MMS/BT) and it seems the v2 is just a g3 update, hardly even worth the new version number imo :(

:edit: They call their 'open wifi service' 'BT FON'

Has apple actually made an announcement about Iphone V2 yet?I saw on engadget that they have got an "iphone2beta" is firmware 2 meaning version 2 or not?

What? whatever people say about a new iPhone and whether it has 3G or better camera are nothing but hopeful wishes, there has been NO confirmation of any new features/models and everything anyone says is baseless. We will have to wait what apple brings.

The big thing people miss about that iPhone when critisising it is that it is the ONLY phone where web browsing is usable, sure if you make a tick list of features against something like the N95 the iPhone seems to be lacking but thats not the point, the point is that the iPhone does all the most common features that people want amazingly well giving a class leading product. Also remember that this is a first generation product and many of the features that people complained were missing at first are being added in the free updates. On Paper the N95 kicks the iPhones ass but in reality the N95 is clunky and not practical for on the move.

@Hamish Try using Opera Mini 4 on the n95- it's much better than the s60 browser. It's almost as slick as mobile Safari and hsdpa makes it much faster :)

(posted using om4 on an n95)

Its pretty much a dead cert the next iphone iteration will be 3G, you'd be a fool to ignore this. The iphone has a sexy GUI that works very well and has a great screen - it has a lot of drawbacks that make it lose out to the N95 - ironically with only EDGE the iphone just isnt a practical internet device for use on the move! That is my biggest bone with the iphone (that the camera, the until now lack of 3rd party support and its outrageous price)

Hamish is wrong, don't listen to him. 3G iPhone for this year has been confirmed by Steve Jobs and an AT&T exec, as well as slated for release in June by Telefonica.

It is nowhere near as good as Safari on the iPhone. I've used both of them extensively and OM4 doesn't even come close.

No they haven't.

All that was said was 3G is promised by the end of 2008. So could be anytime. These are just rumours people are getting excited about.

That firmware is just version 2 for the iPhone, the one that enables 3rd party software etc. It's released a beta to developers so they can start creating apps for the version 2 software release. Which is in June.

I'd agree. I've had my N95 8Gb for 2 weeks, and it irritates me. I'd love an iPhone, but I want Exchange ActiveSync support. I'll have to wait for the v2 Firmware update for iPhone before I buy one - which is due in June.

Are you sure you guys aren't getting confused between the iPhone v2.0 firmware, due in June, and the iPhone v2.0 hardware, which hasn't even been announced at all?!

Look ya bunch of pansies:p...apple will be releasing a 3g version of the iphone but as to when??...no one knows quite yet.

The N95 is a nice phone but compared to the iphone...im sorry the GUI on the iphone knocks seven shades of crap out of it....and theres no point in arguing about it. Ive had my n95 8gb for some time and i love it but compared to my itouch, which is literally the same device without the phone attached....the itouch with its safari browser and touch screen just completely utterly blows the n95 away. If they had released a 3g version originally then i would have never considered the n95 tbqh. The itouch interface is a joy to use, absolutely love browsing on the net wifi when im at home...in fact ive been posting from my itouch for quite some time.

I've been doing a lot of thinking today. Wanted some sort of decent phone, so I replaced mine on Orange with an N95 8Gb. I've had it 2 weeks.

I'm going out tomorrow and buying an iPhone. The N95's going on ebay. It's a great phone that can do everything, but Internet and E-Mail are just too much like hard work on it. I've seen the iPhone in action, and it's no contest.

The main things I'll lose are a 5MP Camera (which I wouldn't use), and 3G/HSDPA & GPS (which would be great, but I can live!).

swame thoughts, but i'm leaning towards the tytn2

I got one this morning.

Then I went back this afternoon with my sister so she could buy one!

Both unlocked within 5 minutes. Brilliant!

What sort of tariff you got on it now? That question goes for anyone else too who doesn't have the official O2 contract :)
