iPhone V2.0??

Thanks Justin. Is EDGE often unavailable? Or is it one of those things that may come and go intermittently when you're out in the middle of nowhere?

Really varies depending where you live. o2 has pretty good coverage though.

If you're in the middle of nowhere then there's no chance of getting it.

just ported over to o2 Simplicity and gonna buy an iphone over the weekend, that way if a new one comes out i can go onto the new iphone contract when it comes!

To be honest they'll probably have some deal for iPhone users to upgrade to the latest version, but I expect you'll probably have had to have had the old iPhone for a certain period of time (6 months?) and then take out a new 18 month contract.

yeah i thought about that too because you could upgrade from the 8gb to the 16gb iphone through o2 properly, but also my tariff is a lot cheaper in the meanwhile

Does the iPhone allow you to use stereo bluetooth headsets to play music without having to have wires, like you can on SE, Nokia etc?

Oh well. Would be nice if they did. Hope a new version will be 3G and have that function, would make it the best phone around I feel.

Where do i enter that promotion code ? ive gone on apple uk's store and added a 16gb iphone but i cant see anywhere to add a promotion code ?

Why would i want one of these rather than say, a HTC Cruise other than an iphone looks better?

I'm upgrading next month, and I'm hunting around, I could wait for one of those two new Nokias as well if i had to.

I don't think there's any hardware limitation, I think it's just lack of software. Not sure why they left it out - maybe they felt wired headphones were better, and constant use of bluetooth would drain the battery further. That was the reasoning they had for leaving out 3G.

Battery life isn't fantastic if using it constantly all day for phone/internet/email/wifi/music etc. I reckon mine could hack 2 days of use before dying... but I charge it every night.

Just having it on standby and using it as a phone (I'm at home revising for a couple of days) barely dents it though. Hardly a surprise!

From what i been reading on the net, Bank Of America are saying the new iphone 3G model will probably be out in May of this yr but Apple and AT&T arent giving any definite dates.

Personally going to wait a bit to see how it all pans out, see what others think of it before buying it myself. I'll be over in Canada summer time so i can easily pop over to America if im going to pick one up.

Anyone know what surfing speeds you get on edge?

Dont want to wait till whenever to get my iphone v2.0 - want an iphone now but dont want to go back to 56k surfing

Anyone know what surfing speeds you get on edge?

Theoretical top speed for EDGE is 236.8kbps. GPRS is 56kbps. 3G (UMTS) is 384kbps. 3.5G (HSDPA) is 7.2Mbps.

GPRS/EDGE are less likely to reach anywhere near the top theoretical speeds though.

UMTS is 2mbps, it's a hell of a lot faster than edge!

From Wikipedia:

UMTS, using W-CDMA, supports up to 14.0 Mbit/s data transfer rates in theory (with HSDPA), although at the moment users in deployed networks can expect a transfer rate of up to 384 kbit/s for R99 handsets, and 3.6 Mbit/s for HSDPA handsets in the downlink connection.

Standard UMTS is only 384kbps. However, it's far more efficient than EDGE and it's much easier to get close to the theoretical top speed.

It's a moot point though since almost all mid/high-end phones these days are HSDPA. :)
