no doubt someone will write an interface for this phone that makes it look and behave exactly like (as close as it can) to an iphone,
Already happenend, this is my M3100

Just looks a bit pretentious if you ask me.

I quite like the WM5 standby screen that shows your appointments, Certainly wouldn't spoil it with that and look like wannabe iPhone user.

Well, shock horror, it isn't perfect and bug free.

Apple make some nice products but they hype them up way too much. Five years ahead of the competition? I think not. :)

Please show me where I said it would be bug free?? yes they hype them up too much but also they are usually very much bug free, especially compared to all other smartphone launches - I am sure it is far far slicker/bug free than pretty much all others. Like I have said repeatedly I am looking forward to apple helping to force Symbian/WM to sort out their own OS's. The iphone's OS without doubt more advanced than others on the market at the moment and that is pretty much what seperates the iphone with the N95 (apart from the better specs on the N95!).

Yes but apple don't let you install extra home brew programs on the Iphone like the Symbian Os/ WM5/6 so it isn't advanced at all if you think of it.

If its advanced/open enough, then the stability isn't an achievement at all(its a given).
Do you see where I am getting at here?

In the UK? Thought that was US only?

Ah yes, sorry.

UK release "towards the end of 2007" seems to be as accurate as anyone has got at the moment.

However, this quote from Esato:
Breaking news reports are a new 3G (European) version of the iPhone will be launched Monday in the UK by Apple in a join promotion with Vodafone, T-Mobile of Germany, and Carphone Warehouse.

Monday being today. That's what confused me. But general Google searches seem to show release at the end of this year.

Looks pretty nice but it'll eat up batterys like no other methinks.
You on about the N95? ;) :p

The iPhone is supposed to have pretty good life, reportedly very near the the Apple quoted figures.

Thats right off the point entirely, so you admit that it is far far more slick/bug free on launch than any other smartphone? It certainly isnt taken as given that a closed system is stable - look at all the WM/Symbian OS's with zero extra software installed they just havent been that stable a) at launch b) even with updates.

You are defending the undefendable, like I have said lots of times this is great, it will force the current OS makers to get their acts together and will be all the more better for us.

No I really dont like the lack of 3rd party apps, and that is a big flaw in the iphone, it certainly isnt perfect, I will never profess to that.

I certainly do

Just to let you know i've geeked the following items

Dell X51v (problems fixed months after rls)
N80 (problems fixed in firmware 4 months after rls)
p990i (latest firmware seems stable but again fixed nearly year after rls)

So yes the Iphone is doing better than above at launch but its not gonna match any of the above for serious use.

I cant but help agree with Sids earlier point that its much easier to gain stability in an OS that is tightly regulated in what additional features/applications can be added (indeed solely 1st party apps) compared to an OS that allows the ability of 3rd parties to add features and applications without direct involvement from the OS developer (outside of the correct IDE).

Indeed you have to be a really bad developer not to make something stable at launch that is completely under your control and doesnt need to consider how 3rd parties will develop for it.

Its like comparing a console with a PC - a PC has to cope with a lot of different functions and the applications added to do these functions; compared to a console that just has a developer defined function set...
