iphone!?

The us uses hsdpa and 3g. So i'd be willing to bet they won't be added for the uk.

I'd take that bet! :)

HSDPA/UMTS is only available in around 10 cities in the US at present. Cingular has a bit of coverage and T-Mobile has absolutely zero.

I'm willing to bet that they didn't have the HSDPA/UMTS component ready for the initial launch. In the US, that doesn't matter much as HSDPA/UMTS is available to many customers anyway. By the time the iPhone is released in Europe (9 months+ from now), I'm sure they will have everything sorted out. European operators have spent a lot of money on their 3G networks and I'm sure that they will not sell such an expensive 2.5G device.

Compared to the N95, this Iphone just looks like another fashion accessory for teenage girls to show their friends in school.

Assuming Nokia get the firmware right on the N95, it is far superior to the Iphone.

Some good GUI demos on the Apple website:

Looks very slick. I want one even more now! :p

##EDIT##
Just saw the keynotes speach!
I challenge anyone to view it all and not go 'wow' at least 3 times. The GUI is so slick its not even funny! :p

It's easy to make anything look slick in a presentation. I'll judge it when I get a real one in my hands in a phone shop.

Your just being bitter for the sake of being different there im afraid.
How many times have we been underwealmed by speaches? Sony E3 2006 anyone?
The fact that everything on it WORKED, and worked flawlessly, and seemlessly as he said just goes to show that their aim for the iPhone, ease of use yet powerful, has been met already. And its not due out for another 6months yet! Thats 6months they can use to make it even better.

Personally I'd find it faster to use a search function or a list than go through it album by album when you have loads of them. Using a stylus helps as well because it allows you to have more on the screen at once being able to select small items. You can use your fingers on a normal ppc screen if you want to. I see that they were comparing the iphone against blackberrys not pda phones so it isn't exactly a fair comparison because pdas have handwriting recognition and bigger keyboards and they all have voice command so you don't have to touch the screen at all.

Thats what I like about windows mobile, all the softare avalible, a gprs monitor is essential when using the internet otherwise you can go over your allowance and get charged tons for bandwidth. I couldn't do without ogg support either, trying to fit hundreds of high quality songs would be impossible otherwise on the limited 8gb of a cf card, and it allows for fitting double the number of songs orginally encoded at 128kbps mp3 or aac as well. And complete video codec support means that if someone sends you a video or you download one you can play it straight away without having to take the video home and transcode it. And of course all the video encoders avalible for ppc mean you can transcode your videos and send them to other people.

Bitter? Not me mate. I've just been excited by hardware only to be let down with the actual device a few too many times. I'm also slightly disappointed that they've chosen not to have 3rd party app support or 3G, but if it's as good as it looks I could probably overlook both of those.

I'll most likely get one, I'm just sick of everyone saying it's going to be the most amazing device ever, will cure aids and solve global warming when the only person who's had their hands on one is Steve Jobs.

The touch screen on the iPhone is more accurate than normal screens due to the propriatry tech Apple are using. If you watched the keynote closely, you'd see that as well as an excellent GUI, nothing on the screen looks squashed, yet its still usable.

Even if it is quadband, they'll still have to do a European model for the European comms standards that arnt GSM. Otherwise they'd be doing a worldwide release simultaniously.

What I like about the windows mobile are the bugs in every application, the treacle like speed of its operation and its diffidulty of use/navigation.;) Its such a lame OS. Now I wish someone could just come in and upset the apple cart and produce an OS that well, just works.:p

You must have been using a crap pda then, because even my xda IIi isn't slow. Everything loads up instantly. If you find using the start menu difficult, then I don't know what to say.

The same argument could be used for some of the critisisms of the iPhone thus far as well. ;).

Ive gotta admit, im not a fan of windows mobile myself. Seems a bit to clunky, its touted as being all powerful & easy, when its really rarther lackluster and pointlessly overdesigned for the sake of it, which makes simple tasks on it a chore.
Dont get me wrong, theres nout wrong with it, it just to me seems to be the geeks choice of OS for mobile devices. The iPhone is more for people who arnt as technically minded and/or just want something thats easy to use from the off without faffing, and arnt bothered about extra abilities beyond its normal functions.

Peoples perceptions of speed and what is 'instant' is different. I think the N73 is slow but other people think its lightning fast.

I dont understand how they don't do a worldwide launch either. Maybe they want to see how it goes in the US first.
