Oh yeah I'm sure it did... but that doesn't mean Apple worked out how to make a phone - I mean they worked with a partner who did know how to make a phone. I suspect the Apple inputs are limited to OS, Apps, UI and ergonomics, that's more than enough to have kept them busy. The actual phone, the radio engineering will be been developed by a phone company... like Foxconn.
i am sorry to say this but you clearly dont know what you talking about! it might help if you do a little research into the company and the product before making stupid claims.... obviously an apple hater... you can tell by the tone..

Hold up! I absolutely do know what I'm talking about. I've worked in mobile radio design for 7 years now, I even gave a keynote address at an international conferrnce on base station architecture last year. Apple hater? Where do you get that from? I bought a MacBook a few weeks ago and love it.

of course apple don't manufacture them all in house... that would be very strange... they did infact design them inhouse
Not the radio parts they didn't. What clv101 said was spot on, you were just talking crap.

I like it. And i want one.
When it gets released, i will be getting one. Its just what ive been waiting for. A good looking phone, with a good camera, Wifi, bags of storage, and good battery life. I can get rid of my iPod then.

My thoughts exactly. Apple will rule all with this device.

At the very least, Apple will be giving the competition a much needed boot up the ass, and I don't think anyone can argue Sony and Nokia aren't wearing brown trousers over this device.

Here are a few more details:

- Does the Web browser support Flash or Java? –No.
- Can it open Word and Excel documents? –No. (Steve Jobs says it can open PDF files, though.)
- Will it sync with Outlook? –No.
- Does it connect to standard iPod accessories like car docks and speaker systems? –Yes!
- Won’t the screen get smudgy? –It does, but you don’t see it except when the screen is off. The one I played with was pretty streaky, but wiping it on my sleeve cleaned it completely.
- iTunes songs can not be set as ringtones
- As reported, battery is not user replaceable
- Gestures / Scrolling interface has brief learning curve
- Screen appears resistant to smudges
- No Voice over IP support
- No wireless iTunes downloads/purchases

It's still 6 months away so maybe some of those limitations can be lifted.

This phone just looks amazing, I really want one but the 2mp camera really puts me off, would have thought they will have a 3 or 5mp camera. Also the release date, too long. My contract is running out in March. (I do understand why there releasing it xmas time tho)

Is it true that it won't be avaiable sim free?I can see networks charging a lot for it. :(

Why did Steve Jobs out-right lie by saying this phone runs OSX? It was already obvious it didn't but now Apple is saying that there will be no third party software which to me makes it certain fact that it doesn't run OSX or anything remotely like it.

you are a fool and obviously have no idea how products get designed and manufactured...of course there going to use some off the shelf components i never ever said the did or didnt... i said it was DESIGNED in house... DESIGNED!!! that the part where you decide what you want it to do and how you want it done...and what goes in it...

I'd use the word "specify" for Apple's input into the 'phone' and "design" for their input into the UI and ergonomics of the device.

Oh - 4,000 posts, yey for me!

Obviously. I wouldn't have thought they'd have even done that much. They'd have designed the UI and some of the stuff, but even with off the shelf kit they won't have designed it totally.

Very expensive for a device that doesn't even have basics like 3G when an xda would cost much less doing the same thing.

I would much rather have the XDA flame.

xda-flame-lowres.jpg

3.6" Vga screen
Intel 520Mhz Cpu
Nvidia Goforce 5500Gpu
Wifi 802.11b/g
Bluetooth
IR
3G
2GB rom
128MB ram
Tv out
2Mp camera
FM Radio
Micro Sd Card Slot
Upgradeable battery

And of course it's running on windows mobile 2005, so it has support for any and every audio and video format.

LOL

Built like a brick cant do that much more than the iphone and a terrible GUI, at any rate thats a pda not a phone. Even the N95 is better than that.

Lol, as soon as the fanboys see something better than their beloved apple product they start to attack. The phone isn't even out yet so how can you comment on it's gui when it's using custom software and say that it's built like a brick when it is exactly the same form factor the iphone is?

Because apple are world renound interface designers :)

The iPhone is all about restraint, it doesn't do everything but it does most things a normal person would want to do while giving good usability and small size.

Eh? I mentioned that the N95 is better than that brick, its even out in Q1.;)

Most likely the GUI will not get anywhere near the iphone, I will bet anything on that. And excuse me? The same form factor!? Its huuge, its a brick! The iphone is a smaller in height, width and thickness -11.6mm its mini. How you can compare a pda to mobile phones like N95/iphone I just cannot see.

Since the flame isn't out you can't say something is better than it thats just stupid. Espically considering pda phones can do much more. Same form factor as in they are both pda shaped and the only real difference is the thickness, which isn't really much of a factor when it's in your pocket anyway, personally though I'd take build quality over size, we all know how apples previous products have been prone to scratching. Besides there are lots of pdas phones smaller than the iphone with 3g or hsdpa. The iphone isn't exactly small.
