Peoples perceptions of speed and what is 'instant' is different. I think the N73 is slow but other people think its lightning fast.

I dont understand how they don't do a worldwide launch either. Maybe they want to see how it goes in the US first.

I think they are waiting for the 3g version to be ready because lets face it a non 3g version wont go down too well in Europe.

Can I put in my own SIM card? Stupid question perhaps, but please anwser :)
Cant see any reason why not. I asume it'll be network locked as most phones are though. So if theres a way around not, theres nothing stopping it being used with any sim card.
Infact, im hoping they can be bought simfree when they're released in the US, as i should be over there when they're released, and i wouldnt mind picking one up, and wacking my existing simcard in it.

It said it was $500 for the cheaper one plus a 2 year, yes a TWO YEAR contract, and one network has exclusive selling rights to it, so I guess thats hinting it will be contract only, ebay always manage to somehow end up selling new and sealed pda phones completley unlocked on p&g though. ;)

Anybody who thinks this will be a failure, and won't be as big, or indeed bigger than the iPod, hasn't watched the keynote speech. I think the release of the iPhone will begin the phasing out of the iPod as we currently know it.

Some insider news on the iphone:

A proven inside source of mine points me toward his posting on a forum describing his hands-on with the iPhone. Here's are his non-fanboy impressions along with some new details:

•"It does have email and it is already set up for AOL/GMAIL/HOTMAIL etc.. and you can use your own POP email address."
•"Not worth the $500-$600 IMHO maybe half that."

•"I must say it has very fast response to input and very good resolution on the LCD it is very crisp and vivid."
•"...it has a place to put your SIM. It looks to not have an easily replaceable battery (like the IPODS no battery door)." [This runs contrary to other rumors.]
•"The phone has a super top secret feature that I can't even be told what is (anyone have a clue?)."
•"Web browsing is pretty fast as well."
•" The phone has to be carried around in a pouch there is no other way around it. " [A matter of opinion...]
•"One thing that struck me was that there are constant firmware updates. I'm talking nearly daily. I hate to see that the firmware is being tweaked so much 3 weeks before its release." [I'm sure there'll be Boom at launch...]

Although I got our hands on with an early preproduction model in January, it's nice to hear from someone who's held the production model. I don't agree with all he's said (particularly the price not being worth it) but I know you guys are tired of me ranting about this phone, so a little outside perspective can't hurt. All will be revealed on the 29th of June.

Boy Genius has the internal talking points for AT&T sales reps. The only interesting info here confirms that existing users will be able to upgrade to the iPhone. (That was cast in doubt when the "June 29th" commercials hit, for some reason.)

IFOApplestore.com, run by the guy who covers the Apple retail scene, says that the AT&T stores will have very low numbers of iPhones to sell, "perhaps fewer than 40 units." I know Jobs had said to A. Huffington that he recommends people going to AT&T stores, where the lines are going to be shorter, but if that report is true, most people should probably line up at the Apple Stores. Also interesting (but I think I've heard it before) is that Cingular is installing repeaters at all Apple stores to ensure good reception for the Jesus Phone.

Listening to MacBreakWeekly the other day it seems a manufacturing firm for apple are producing iPhones which are of a different configuration to the US ones, so I'm betting on a 3G model :)

I read a story this morning that says that the next batch onwards of iPhone have bettery batteries and a more scratch resistant material covering the screen.

The current generation now will have an improved screen and battery life compared to the original launch.

If all that stuff on Engadget are true, then the iPhone sounds more like i####. :(.
Shame really. As it looked amazing in the keynotes annoucement ages ago.

Wow its looks pretty bad.

Definitely the big points (as in requirements rather than wants) missing is text block editing; no music ringtones; no flash/embedded video support in browser; no MMS; and awkward battery replacement...

If it was only one of those missing Id be still happy - but all those just mean Im not getting an iPhone for sure...
