iphone!?

I expect the mms thing will be sorted by launch here as will the mp3 ringtones or the networks just won't support it.

lack of a2dp is just unofrgivable though.. I work in mobile accessories and all we are talking about at the moment is a2dp and avrcp.. both on a serious music phone are utterly essential at the moment with high end really sexy bluetooth speakers and headphones hitting the market it really is a total must and I think its in the chipset not the software.

Against I'm sure all these things can be changed, bear in mind the european market is much more sophisticated than the US one, the iPhone just won't make it here unless they sort it out whereas in the states where a lot of the place is still analogue iirc things like mms and downloadable ringtones aren't really as big a deal as you might imagine.

There was over a dozen ijits queued outside the Apple store on 5th Ave last night as I was heading home. Oh how I've smiled during the evening thunderstorms this week, more forcast tonight too :D

*** The official iPhone thread ***

As Justin has reminded us all in the leopard thread - it's out tomorrow!

Looking that the techspecs - it's quad band GSM, EDGE and wifi.

It's good it's GSM as AT&T also have CDMA and TDMA in their network.

I would get one from US shipped over here, but its locked to AT&T so it wont work over here, it wont even swicth on I heard.

There should be a 3G version before a european launch, but then again AT&T have a reasonable 3G network I believe, certainly I understand that it doesn't support the fastest network AT&T have available, which is odd...

regarding shipping one from the states, it doesn't take a SIM card so it'll be no use at all to you...

I don't know weather I will get one or not when they come out over here. I will wait for some in depth reviews over the next few weeks and see if any faults are found.

But from what i've seen, it looks very good.

Most of the problems are software based and so can be fixed, hopefully in time for the Europe launch. Most of em don't bother me, the main thing that's a disappointment atm is the lack of integrated flash and video, and the lack of ringtones, still looks like a good fone tho...

I think a delayed European launch will benefit Europeans users, as it will give them time to iron our any software or hardware bugs.

I'm very tempted to get one as I can't live without a smartphone these days and it does sound very innovative, and I really like the idea of it being a closed software platform as it should hopefully lead to stability which has been my biggest bugbear with all the Symbian phones I've owned. Although this would obviously be at the expense of 3rd party applications, but in my experience there are few 3rd party symbian applications I've been that impressed with. Also being a closed platform would hopefully mean no network branded firmwares and the myriad of problems those can cause.

I couldn't live without 3g though, so hopefully the rumours of a 3g model for a European launch will come to fruition.

Pricing will be interesting in the EU, as US customers are more used to long contracts and high handset prices, whereas we're not in Europe. I'd still want a 12 month agreement and considering I pay 75quid a month in line rental i'd expect it for free.

Without 3g I probably will avoid the iphone, regrettably so. I do hope a 3g version will be released in Europe.

 didnt even realise it didnt have 3G - wow the US consumers are easily pleased if this sells well...

I hope you are right about the lack of branding BUSH, I think Apple will bend over backwards to ensure this hits the UK/Euro market which to me means that they will make network branded versions of the OS rather than the networks themselves...

The US isnt really 'into' 3g (and the coverage isnt nationwide yet) its a few years behind the European market hence there being no need for it.

The CDMA networks in the US (Verizon and Sprint) are into 3G in a big way. AT&T are playing catch up with their HSDPA network, but it stills covers most major cities. By the end of that 2 year contract, I'm sure it'll be wide-spread.

The networks might be, but the public arent, that sthe problem, thats why apple will get away with it.
