Ive just signed with them for 1mb product,
Ive heard good things about them on ADSL guide.

Plus when you sign up they give you some added extras like 750mb webspace and upto 24 email accounts.

Sweet might have to look into them but may wait to see if they keep their Maxdsl unlimited :)

Im not bovered, i live in a Cr@p area for broadband but then again some people are a lot worse than me who cant get 256k broadband, but If it even makes 300kbps extra I think that would be neat.

Im just getting bored on 1mb

At a guess they may use interleaving(?) which adds around 20-40ms to latency

But you can ask to have it switched off (obviously at the cost of a reduction in sync rate). So seems utterly pointless

Great news dude - nice one.

My 2Mbps service with Pipex will be upgraded to 8Mbps in a few weeks

No it wont, it will be enabled for up to 8mbit.

You may get less speed with maxdsl - if you get disconnections at 2mbit, maxdsl will slow your line down until it is stable.

For the vast majority of people it will mean much faser speeds though :)

Im all prepared for madsl here - filtered faceplates can help you a lot. If you want the fastest possible speed on maxdsl, you need to tidy your home wiring etc.

I did all my wiring yesturday, added new cables and NTE5 filtered master socket and now my SNR has improved, line attenuation has decreased and I don't get any errors or disconnects no more.

Yeh I have done similar, filtered faceplate fitted by BT on my NTE5, I get the same SNR on the test port as I do when it connects all my extensions together.

I hope that I am able to get a higher speed than I have at present (1 Mb), I have tried to upgrade to 2 Mb but, unfortunately, I live too far away from the exchange under the current rules. :(
If my line won't support 2 Mb and Max ADSL slows my line down to 1.5 Mb and this speed is stable, then how is it going to work with broadband packages?

My ISP offers 1 Mb, 2 Mb and when Max DSL is up and running, probably an (up to) 8 Mb service as well but no 1.5 Mb service.
So would I be given the choice of staying where I am now on 1 Mb or upgrading to the 2 Mb package even though I am only able to receive a 1.5 Mb service?

Same here.
I just ordered one the other day and hope that it will improve the chances of me being able to get a faster broadband speed?
I just hope it is easy to fix as I know nothing about UK telephone wiring :o

What ISP are you actually with, and do you have any line stats (i.e. attenuation/SNR)?
I'm with AOL Broadband and I don't know about my line stats as I am currently using a USB ADSL modem (BT Voyager 100) but if I can get a faster speed then I would be prepared to invest in a router.
Unfortunately, I have no knowledge of routers or even how to set one up :o

I am under the impression that AOL only support certain models of router so if I invest in one I just hope that I don't have any trouble with it!
First of all I will have to wait until Max DSL is launched to see if I can get a faster speed, if not then I don't see the point in buying a router!

p.s. perhaps Max DSL will work with a USB modem anyway, I'm not sure

Would make sense to get one now and know for sure.

So buy one of the ones they support?
It's not exactly hard to set up if you read the manual.

With stats you could take an educated guess, but that's the best you're going to get.

Of course it will.

Would expect if your speed drops there won't be much you can do about it, either drop to 1Mbps (and get 1Mbps speeds), or stick on up to 2Mbps. That said, you shouldn't be forced on to IPStream Max if you don't want to.
