IPStream Max launch official - 31st March (including BT Broadband upgrade)

Would make sense to get one now and know for sure.
I don't see how as if I am not going to benefit speed wise then what's the point?

tolien said:
Of course it will.
At least I know that I won't have to spend money if I don't have to.

That said, you shouldn't be forced on to IPStream Max if you don't want to.
So you have a choice then?
I think that if I was able to get 1.5 Mb then I would upgrade to the (up to) 2 Mb service.
It would only be another £5 a month (or £1.25 a week) so it isn't really going to break the bank.

You know if you are or aren't?
An ISP with a clue could extract attenuation and SNR margin from Whoosh. But that's probably a bit too advanced for AOL support.

So you have a choice then?

Erm, yes. The current home500-2000 aren't going anywhere. It's just if AOL decide to mass upgrade everyone.

Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 2272 288
Noise Margin 29.7 dB 27.0 dB
Line Attenuation 8.5 dB 6.0 dB

will i be ok, i should be right ?

So by buying a router and finding out your line stats then you have a much better idea of what sort of speed you can get then.
Crystal clear now ;)

I thought this process was automatic with ISP's?
Perhaps you have to ask them to put you on Max DSL when it's launched then?

Yes. That was the whole point.

Er, yes and no. BT aren't moving anyone, the ISPs have to order it.

You can ask to be regraded, and there'll be a bulk regrade scheme (a la last year's up to 2Mbps farce).
But as last year, don't expect to be on IPStream Max too soon if you wait for the bulk upgrade.

I have some hope though as I am coming to the end of my 12 month contract in April, so I expect they will try and keep me and what better way then keeping me happy with a Max DSL upgrade ;)

p.s. perhaps Max DSL will work with a USB modem anyway, I'm not sure

It will, but Zen staff have stated that they had lots of problems on the trial with USB modems. The main problem is that people can't seem to get more than 4mbit through them under normal conditions.

Yes. Instead of asking, how about using this (also in the FAQ, if you read it).
It's going to be as accurate as anyone can guess at anyway.

on that checker they reckon I could get 8192kbps?
when I do checker thing for bt and samknows and also a few others I can only get 1mb

Samknows and "a few others" will still be using the BT database, which is still guessing mostly based on the current prequalification rules...

I expect they will try and keep me and what better way then keeping me happy with a Max DSL upgrade

I'm sure BT will really care...

That shouldn't be a problem for me as I doubt whether my line will be able to get 4 Mbit anyway!

I am probably going to go ahead with the purchase of a router as it sounds like a good idea.

I thought BT were going to lift their max db line noise rules with this. Seems not. Im on 2Mbit but I doubt they would upgrade me on these stats?:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2272 kbps 288 kbps
Line Attenuation 46 db 12.5 db
Noise Margin 13 db 22 db

Er, they are...
The attenuation limits will disappear, but your crappy SNR isn't going to magically improve.

For the trillionth time, this (also in the FAQ) should give some rough indication of what you'll get.

Cooool! 8mb possible!!!

Ive got a NetGear DG634 but I cant find any of the above data showing line Db etc :(

Do I have to wait and see what I get? Or is there anyway of finding out??

Cheers Conc
