heard that on the radio - but i was thinking the killer was smart enough to go on w/o getting caught, due to lack of evidence found. (edit:the original comment seemed REALLY poorly worded.)- I wonder how they caught him. Unless they're doing it to infuriate the real killer and make him confess or something.

^^ A new low has been reached :(

Pleased to hear a man is in custody for all 5 murders. Lets hope it's him.

d'oh thats not what i meant for you to take from it. I meant that because there seemed to be a lack of evidence he was smart enough to keep going. NOT that it was right. NOT that i support any kind of murder.

Apologies

Fair dues, you can realise someone is smart without approving of their actions.

I do hope they have caught the person who is responsible.

Hmm, apparently the guy they've arrested was interviewed by the Sunday Mirror saying that he's friends and has had sex with all the women, but denies any involvement in their murders. He also claims that the police had interviewed him on a number of occasions throughout the investigation, yet denies any wrongdoing.

Not sure, but to me this sounds like either a) a guilty man attempting to cover his guilt by going public and pleading his innocence to the media b) a guilty man who's motive from the outset was becoming famous or the centre of public attention, the Mirror reported him as a 'loner' and this kind of psychological need is frequently a motive for a murderer wanting to be caught. This might also be why he was sloppy in disposing of the bodies - perhaps he wants to be caught.

Alternatively, it's possible that despite close connections with the deceased ARE purely co-incidental. In this case, I suppose the investigation against this man will revolve around the chronological evidence, i.e. where he was at the suspected time of the murders.

I hope they have better evidence than his lack of alibis. And as he has frequently visited them then DNA evidence may not stand up in court.

The biggest mistake humans make is to assume one's enemies are stupid or insane.

As the recent Bobel rpize winner for Economics said in his speach "War and PEach"- hitler was neither mad nor stupid. He had certain goals, and the extermination of Jews was part of his goals.

Indeed, serial killers are rarely stupid and are usually of well above average intelligence even if their academic record shows otherwise.

Whether or not they have caught the real killer, I believe there will be one of a few motives behind it.

If Male:

1) Caught something off a prostitute
2) Someone he knew was hurt by a prostitute (caught something etc)
3) Had a hatred of prostitutes for unknown reason (ie gay, and hated them for selling themselves)
4) Thought they wouldnt be missed- easiest vent for tendencies/fantasies
5) Thought they were scum and must be removed
6) Was unable to find a companion, and developed a hatred from it, be it due to them selling themselves, or being unfaithful in every way, or whatever

Female:
1) Caught something off another prostitute
2) Had been forced into it themselves at somepoint, and now possessed off irrational hatred
3) Had been spurned/cheated on by someone for a prostitute
4) Someone they knew had been hurt by one before (son?)
5) Hated them for selling thier own bodies to males (feminist?)
6) Thought they wouldnt be missed

Not sure if they'll ever discover the true motives, but they seem like some fairly reasonable suspected motivations.

The killer being a Taxi driver makes perfect sense to me. So it doesnt suprise me that the person that has been arrested is a Taxi driver. I really hope it is the killer and that this is an end to it.
