iRacing

I checked my T500 pedals last night and there's no movement at all in the accelerator and brake. There's a very small amount of sideways play in the clutch, but not enough to catch anywhere.

Grr knew i would have to fight with TM on this "We like to inform you that after comparing the behavior of your pedal set with the ones we are using for tests, especially for endurance tests, we can confirm that the behavior of it is normal.

The wheel is subject to very strict in-house approval criteria including this tolerance for the shafts. Without this gap the pedal sets would not have a progressive movement." absolute rubbish, from all the replies ive had on countless forums its not normal, so my only other thought is the springs have compressed a bit, and thus not giving full tension when the pedals are resting idle giving the slop - but again TM dont want to know and its annoying me.

And to all the people who dont get along with the C Spec, its a very good car, just need to be gentle with it, as it doesnt like being rough handled, especially under braking and on throttle out of corners, its by far my most loved car in iracing, tried the GT3 version and it didnt feel right to me.

If I get time over the weekend I'll video mine and you can link TM to it.

I reckon my pedals are two years old and have had plenty if use and I don't have that amount of play in mine.

As you can see, any sideways play is on the main shafts and that's only present because I've removed the large black cover and the chequer plate foot rest.

I ended up buying the RUF, along with Suzuka & Sebring for the 10% discount. Suzuka gives me the last 4 tracks for the GT3 class, and Sebring is a track i dont know, infact my only recollection of it is from the Indycar days between 92-95, its a track i remember only by the airfield straights, but it seems to be a fairly popular US track so i've added it and hopefully it'll turn up in a season or 2.

I've just tried the C-Spec around Lime Rock, which is what they've been doing this week, and first impressions are positive. Im surprised a little by the amount of power its got, its a tad faster than expected, the punch more than general speed. After about 15 laps im down to 53.0xx which seems to be on-par with lower (2/2) split fastest laps!
My iR is at 1960 so i wouldnt be in with them, but im a tad surprised my PB lap isnt further back.

I'll be going down the TT route to meet my MPR requirements, and i find its a good way to learn consistency, because theres nobody to race/defend against, no distractions, and you've got to do X clean laps to set a time, and currently in races i tend to be quick enough to be in the upper-midpack, i just make too many mistakes which puts slower but clean/consistent drivers ahead, so this i find encourages what i need to improve. I think my defending, attacking & pack racing is fine, i just make driving mistakes which cost me, slides etc through lack of focus or pushing too hard.

What i dont think helps is that i still feel like a rookie, each week im having to learn stuff that a lot of the field are familiar with, but my iR isnt low enough to put me in with people who are on my level, certainly not when i move to a new car, im feeling comfortable in the Skip after 3wk, so im just learning the track which is much easier than learning a car, let alone both at the same time. So it'll be a while till i race with other RUFs, might do some practice sessions but i'll want to feel comfortable in the RUF before i race with people. If my iR was around 1000, i wouldnt be so concerned (id still want to feel confident im not going to ruin a race).

I definitely need to do a race before the track change tomorrow. I've inly son one race in the last three weeks, I've been distracted by Gran Turismo 6 and playing old Megadrive and PlayStation games.

Sebring is a great track, a bit narrow in places, but only in places where the idiots think they can pass.

I got the Skippy in the end with a couple of tracks, have to say it is the most fun I have had driving road on Iracing in a long time. The car is really fun to drive and I find it very forgiving (which is good for me ).

Im looking to get some serious laps in over the next few days to see if I can get anywhere near the top splits.

Cheers barmy for that video, with your permission id like to send the link to TM as it outlines perfectly what mine should be doing (why am i having terrible luck with my t500 :( )

As for iRacing, unfortunately ive had to stop for the moment, we have taken in a 3 week old orphaned kitten, and he hates the sounds and the wheel noise, hoping ill be back soon once he mans up hehe.

You're welcome.

Use it as you see fit.

Good stuff mate been driving the SRF the last few days and it's a lot of fun. Sebring is a great track might do a few races in it this week

Thought I'd better get some racing in today as I'd been away all week.

SFR - 5th and 1st
BMW Z4 - 8th
Skippy - 2nd

I put in some hours practising and it paid off. I've now got a pretty solid SFR baseline setup and I've finally got the correct/better tyre pressures for the skippy.

I'm looking forward to Sebring this week, it's gonna take ages to get round in the SFR but I should imagine it's going to be fun!

The skippy around Zandvoort is a lot of fun, feels like a rollercoaster ride :D

I went back to Mid-Ohio today, i did about 15 laps around there on Thurs/Fri as its another new one for me, and it just felt impossible. My best from that was just about into the 1:39.9s with my optimal at around 1.39.4, and it just didnt seem possible to go all that much faster.

Today i seemed to pick things up right where i left them, and within a couple of laps i'd got into the 37's (think i did a high 37 before i did a 38) and im now down to 1:36.428, and i've done a couple of time trials, but my best session i only managed 1 clean run of 5 laps (1:36.895), fortunately it was a decent set, but i know i could get a run of 10 laps around the 1:36.6 easily.

I also did a few laps in the RUF around Okayama, they're at Zolder this week but i dont gots no Zolder, so its a chance to get a bit of practice in over the week, a few days online practice, and hopefully i'll know whether im comfortable out there or not. I still find myself getting caught out by the torque when putting my foot down on the exit of a corner, and the difference between simply not slipping (not even getting it right) and the rear sliding out is huge, so until ive got that under control its going to be a while till im out with others.

[edit]
It seems like a lot of people are using the same setup, and its one i picked up from somewhere without realising its a fairly 'default' setup, and its felt good at all the tracks so far.

22psi F&R, 5 SPO, 7 ARB, 58 BB.

Managed a race last night at Zolder in the GT3.

Started 15th and finished 6th, I reckon I could have finished higher but got stuck behind a slower driver at the start who made it difficult to pass and I didn't want to just take him out. Then later on as I was catching 5th, a few cars I was trying to lap didn't exactly make it easy, so I ran outbid laps to catch up.

Good race though, really enjoyed it.

Silverstone from tonight, not one of my favourites at all.

ButtKicker 2 Gamer arrives today for my Obutto rig. Going to link it to SimVibe and see how it goes. If I like it, will add another to the front for chassis mode :)

I actually watched the last 10 laps of your Skippy race, was a good battle between you and third place guy. I actually thought you were going to catch the leader near the end but you ran out of laps, was a good race to watch mate.
