really struggling in the ruf tonight. thinking of buying a different car.. any recommendations for a c licence

The Skip Barber is a decent car to drive, especially if you're used to the MX5. I was very anti the Skippy when I first bought it a few years ago, but it's a really rewarding car to drive and the races have decent participaction. And you'll always have a few cars to race with, no matter how quick or slow you are.

the skip is a good shout, I actually brought the car but ive never raced it it was to keen to get promotion so used the jetta,

I have also brought the star mazda but never raced it lol..

prob is lack of tracks in my inventory. Think i need to ask santa for some more lol.

im going to persevere with the ruf for tonight then maybe try the skippy for a while then move up...

I have a habit of buying cars and not racing them. I even buy cars that I know I've no interest in racing yet, I enjoy being able to do some practice laps in them occasionally and assume that as my standards rise (slowly!) they'll become more relevant.

Anyway, I can heartily recommend the Skippy. I've done more seasons in that than anything else and it's a car that I go back to regularly and remember what I like so much about it. Its best feature, as mentioned by barmyllama, is the high level of participation. You will get a well-populated race at pretty-much any hour of the day.

I'm also really liking the mustang at the moment. Like the Skippy, it's not a fast car, but it's a rewarding car to drive and a good car to handle. Participation is average (lots of Americans with amusing radio patter) and the mixed class series that it's now in makes for interesting races, dealing with traffic.

The Ruf is a good car once you can get comfortable in it. I got a setting from the iRacing forums that works ok for me. I'm far from the fastest, but I'm getting increasingly consistent in it, which is a good place to start!

Had a couple of good races tonight. Managed a decent result in the RUF Cup, finishing 4th and getting 144 points to go 2nd in Div2.

Then I went in for a SRF race at Okayama. I had been considering giving up on the SRF as frankly it seems annoyingly twitchy on the brakes, but the first few laps of this race changed my mind (I'm in the #2 Silk Cut Jag livery):

Great racing and respect from all involved, until the coming together. From that point on it was a straightforward race for me, maintaining the lead and keeping a 5 second gap to the cars behind.

My last three races have all be incident free so I'm back up to A3.53 after being in danger of dropping down to 2.6, so I can drive like a mad man again, hurrah! :D

That looks like a lot of fun. I'm convinced that iRacing is at its best in the slower cars. I've never really tried the SRF, maybe I should give it a look.

I feel a bit hard done by this week with the championship points in the RUF cup, I have raced twice and won both yet only have 107pts to show for it!

This race the guy who piled on the pressure all race had 1000 more irating than me (I'm just about at 2500) and the guy in 3rd had over 3000 yet I only got 107pts fopr a really hard fought win!

I know that feeling. The points are all based on the SOF, so you normally work out better finishing top 5 in the high strength races than winning any other. If you can make them, the highest SOFs of the week are 1945 Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The following 2145s are usually pretty high too.

Hi chaps. I ran a few more in the ruf got my pb which is a slow 59.1 can anyone give me any pointers apart from turning it off lol

I run a standard tune at the mo and my settings are stock on g27 i will address these issues tonight and hopefully gain some time.

i tried the skippy and loved it but dont want to do to much as im not really in to open wheelers and love my gt3 as i have done in all the forza's and currently assetto.

I want to put some hours in to get better and hopefully participate in a league of some kind

Any ways here is my vid the last lap is my pb as bad as it is i no i can go faster as soon as i get a tune and my wheel is set up.

Please go easy on me lol

I'm going to edit my Qual lap later with the telemetry, that might help you more than me trying to explain every corner in detail.

Lol awesome I no the track very well.. I was top 50 leader board on forza 4 however this is a totally different pot lol. Tonight I'm going to get the g27 sorted and run some laps see if I improve then I'm going for a build.

It's one thing being good on an arcade sim ( forza ect ) but this is another ball game lol

not a perfect lap by any means, I've already done a 57.6 but it might help you to identify where you're losing time.

lovely i can see at first glance im in the wrong gear for at least 3 parts in comparison to your lap..

im lossing nearly half a second most laps in the last sector at chicane i was trying this in 3rd gear but i constantly lock up my breaks on the run up to it... im consistently low 59's now but i no i can get low 58's if i can get my line right
