iRacing

Well you sort of can and can't complain.

It's the first price rise in the 5 years I've been subscribing, but a 35% price hike on a two year subscription is large jump.

Just totalled my spend on iRacing since joining in May 2011

$820 :eek::eek::eek::eek:

Then again it works out to around £10 a month

It's not 35% is it? The forum post says 'less than $1 a month", so <$24 on a ~$179 sub (the basic price, rather than the regular deal price, who knows if the deals will continue...

Also, $820, been a member 8 years and got 100% content (well, minus Imola for the time being), bit more than $820 I think, not sure I want to look :D :p

My sub runs till September this year, which will be 8 years running, probably end up getting another 2-year at the current discounts this month to make it a nice round 10 years :p

This is the first price rise since I started in 2008 (tracks/cars got a bit cheaper at one point iirc, and the 2 year sub was introduced to be cheaper than 2x 1 year ones), so meh, not overly upset

On the team racing I joined the slack stuffs today, need to update my availablity as I can do Sundays at 17:00 GMT :) I can't seem to get setup sync to work though, whenever I try to get anything it crashes on me, very useful :p

Oh yeah, also did some skippy racing today, not a fan of laguna seca but at least I know both the car and track so got into it fairly quickly, both races went mostly ok with some good battling so can't complain :)

If the BES is anything like the GT3 BSS practice session I've just been in then I think it'll be a lot of work for nothing.

I'm not joking when I say I was rammed off deliberately 4 times in the space of 30 minutes.

The last time, before leaving, was by the #2 car after I moved over and let him past.

I know practice tends to be a bit rough and tumble, since there's no SR or IR at stake, but it's the same sort of childish **** I left the GT3 series behind for.

In more fun news, I just did my first Proto/GT race of the season at Imola. It's hard work keeping both your concentration and tyres together for 75 minutes, but great fun. Should have won it, but got badly blocked by a HPD going through Acque Mineralia and the second placed GT nipped through. Tomorrow night's 18:45 race will be streamed by Racespot, so come and join the race to be judged by all on Youtube :D I'll be there if I can get home from work in time.

I was in that race as well in the HPD, running 3rd when I went in for a pit stop, added 20lbs more of fuel than needed and accidentally took tyres as well, dropped me back to 5th. Didn't really matter anyway, as the litre of water I drank before the race came back to haunt me, 9 laps to go and the pain got too much to handle and I disco'd out lol. Still finished 6th and gained a shed load of SR and about 30 IR.

The HPD around Imola is awesome, and the GT guys are great at showing you what side to take when overtaking.

Just had a mixed skippy race, stupidly half-lifted off the clutch whilst the lights were still red, didn't go forwards but the car started rolling backwards, got a jump start penalty :(

So I was on 2nd, gave up that to 3rd on the run up to the corkscrew as not worth fighting it just before pitting, pitted and came out something like 5s behind 10th place. Then proceeded to put in one of the best stints I've done in a long time, set a best lap of 37.7 (at the end the 2nd best time was a 38.1), and didn't get any incidents until lap 12, 2 off-tracks total by the end and 6th place about a second behind 5th (after gaining ~1.2s in the last lap to him)

So yeah, poor finish of 6th given the quality of the field but probably my best drive in a long time :p

I'm so gutted that they picked the 1845 Proto/GT race to be streamed on Racespot as I don't get home from work in enough time to join it. Over 6100 SOF in the GT1 field tonight. Hopefully there's another good SOF this weekend otherwise my chance of the championship is over before it even starts :(

Agreed, I can only race every 2nd Wed due to work commitments, if they had made it the 2045 race it would have been so much busier, especially for the yanks to join.

I didn't know you got more championship points the stronger the field, does suck for you guys. I just wish I could get into a top split race. :p I've downloaded three set ups from the forums for the AMG for you guys to try, I'll be able to upload them later to slack but it will not be till 9.00 pm odd I imagine.

We had our first team races over the weekend and they went pretty reasonably well, they were definitely great fun. 8th in the first race with the four or us, out of 42. In the 2nd race we got DQ with 18 mins to go while in 7th. It's a shame but the collisions didn't go our way unfortunately but that's iracing.

Just picked this up again, playing it with a friend so there is more motivaiton to play and get better. Running round Summit Point in the MX5 over the weekend; still amazes me how much people crumble under pressure. Was about 1/1.5 seconds behind the guy in 4th going into turn 1, he must've seen me coming in fast and forgot his braking point so went flying off the track

What would people recommend as natural progression from the MX5 on road once I'm at D license? Don't know which series has more participation / one better than the other etc etc.

Raced New Hampshire roval last night in the skippy.

Quite a fun track, despite me whining earlier about having to buy Mickey Mouse rovals.

Started and finished 5th, should have been 4th but I was glad to get away with a mistake I made early in the race, which put me down to 7th. The leaders taking each other off also helped me gain places.

Probably the friendliest races I've been in, very chatty and very fair racing.

Had a weird race last night in the Skippy. I had one guy that was as quick or slow as me, that just couldn't get by without hitting me. He made contact with me 3 times during the race, as well as with another driver earlier in the race. Yet when I finished the race I had no incidents at all. Nor did my car take any damage either, which seemed impossible given how hard he hit me the first time.

I'd recommend 3 months to start off. There used to be a promotion where you could get 3 months for $5, not sure if it still works. Google is your friend. If not, it's $18 here - www.iracing.com/membership

Stick with the free content until you're sure you want to carry on your membership beyond 3 months, or it could get expensive quickly. That said, I f you want to buy just 1 item once you've moved beyond a rookie licence, buy the Skip Barber which is a good car to move onto and races on lots of the free circuits.

If you know someone else that is a member, enter their email address as a referral and they get $10 bonus, too.

Let us know how you get on!

Try these :-
3 months for $5 for new members: PR-RENAULT
3 months for $5 for new members: PR-V8SCOPS
3 months plus Kia for $12 for new members: PR-BSRTC

Keep in mind "dirt" isn't here yet. It's #comingsoon.
