iRacing

The HPD is good fun to drive. I want to try it with an OSW as it feels a bit lifeless on my wheel. That's why I prefer the GT1s as you have to man-handle them. Looking forward to the LeMans week in ProtoGT already.

I seem to remember paying around £80, which seemed like a lot to spend on a controller. Then I look how much I've spent on my sim rig now and it just pales into insignificance.

My first wheel was a t500rs luckily I liked sim racing lol. I did have an wireless 360 wheel but after having a bit too much to drink one night I was sick on it, had to go in the bin after that. :p

^^ Got me thinking about the number of wheels I've had and indeed still do to this day.

First one was back in the days of the PlayStation - no force feedback, used if for TOCA 1+2 and Granturismo. I then upgraded to one which was similar but support rumble feedback after the dual shock controller was released, this must have been for GT2.

The PS2 and the release of GT3 bought unimaginable goodness in the form of the Logitech Driving Force. Only 180 degrees of rotation but force feedback! This one got used extensively with WRC as well, stunning game back in the day, and GPL on PC - my first forey into PC sims.

GT4 Prologue gave us the Driving Force Pro - bundled together in a special pack. With 900 degrees this was a massive upgrade over the Driving Force. The built in sequential shifter was a nice addition. Had this wheel for a fair old while - was the first wheel I used on iracing.

In parallel to this I had an Xbox 360 wireless wheel which I bought when I got Forza 2. This was latter upgraded to a Fanatec Porsche Turbo S with Club Sport Pedals for Forza 3. This one replaced the DFP for PC duties as it was compatible with both.

One of the shifter padals died on the Turbo S through heavy use, I sank major hours into Forza 3. I carried on for some time using a button to downshift instead but eventually upgraded to a second hand Fanatec CSW which had already had the motors replaced so was more of a CSW 1.5 This came with the BMW GT rim.

Ran the CSW for a while before jumping in at the first opportunity to get a CSW v2 to which I latter added the Porsche 918 rim which has hardly been off it since I got it. This is my current wheel along with the original CSP, a CSS+ and CSH. I'm now looking forward to a Fanatec direct drive offering.

To this day I still have the Xbox 360 wireless wheel, Porsche Turbo S and CSW v1.5.

Edit: and back to the topic at hand all the build up for a special announcement and its a car which is already featured in two other sims (R3E and PCARS). Maybe next weeks announcement will be more impressive? Had to laugh how it crashed the member forums :p

It's still crashing lol

Don't mind them adding this car to the service but the back log of other cars like the Renault 3.5 not being completed is very annoying

Well performance at Imola is abysmal, as low as 53 passing the pits.

I really am getting a bit sick of this. The game is stuck on a game engine that's as old as the hills and is incapable of running the game. And I don't even max the game out, I run at defaults. I don't even have cockpit mirrors on.

Seriously considering taking the loss and not renewing at the end of the year.

Have you tried re-running the graphics setup barmy? People on the forums have had similar issues and solved them that way.

I'm a little disappointed in the Audi announcement if I'm completely honest. I was hoping for some gameplay features, or a classic Le Mans car. Not going to moan about it though as I'm sure there's plenty of people out there who'll race and enjoy the car, but it's just not my bag. I really do wish they'd do some housekeeping before adding more and more content though.

What do you have and what have you done before? A few of us on here are going to give the HPD a go this season but it's 60 minute races. I'd recommend the skippy, great fun to drive and usually decent racing.

I guess I could give the HPD a go.

18 months ago I last raced on iRacing and looking at my past 10 races I was playing with the skippy and SRF.

Still working out kinks in my wheel settings as its not right. The FFB is violently strong when I put a wheel off track or on the curbs, I've put in a support ticket for it.

irating is currently 2846

I'm going to give the Formula Renault ago and I'll do some testing in the HPD.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

Just feels like the whole thing is one Band Aid on top of another and another. Like I said on Slack, the only real upside to iRacing is the structure and the fact that it's expensive means you don't get deliberate wrecking.

Just been testing at Imola in the Aston, dropping down into the 60's at the start of the straight but soon picking back up to 90 where it stays for the rest of the circuit. That is maxed out settings bar higher details in mirrors. GTX 1080 in VR.

When I tested the new build triple screens were running even better thanks to SMP. Like Nurburgring, Imola has a lot of pit buildings and grandstands that it has to draw in as you round the final corner and all that geometry seems to take its toll. Hopefully once DX9 gets ditched things will pick up a pace.

Re ran the set up, deleted and re downloaded Imola, makes no difference. In fact maxing the game out made a couple of sections feel smoother.

A GTX 980Ti and an i5 4960K shouldn't struggle with this game.

I really liked the FR when I raced it in the first season it was out but the driving standard put me off running it for the next one, no idea what it is like now.

It's fine now Mike, all the MX5 kiddys have gone back to it.

You do obviously get the odd shunt or two here and there, just the usual racing thing though.

Was actually fine last season as well, only ever had one idiot on track, he spun out just as he began the downhill section at Bathurst and decided to reverse on the track as I came round the corner!

That's good to hear, I might give it a go next season as I do really like that car.

was going to buy this today but not sure, can you use a joy pad with this game? also do you get cars free? or do you only get a couple and have to buy individual cars? same with tracks,do you get all tracks? or do you have to buy them all separate as well?

if you get most cars and tracks free with asking price of game and can play with a pad I think ill buy it today :)
