iRacing

I watched Basic Ollie stream. It kept me from F1 qualifying. The last 2 hours were intense.

I'm upto iRating 1750 now and class A. The 40 min GT3 races are really good for me. We're at Interlargos this week and I can drive that clean lap after lap. In the high 34s usually, best lap being a 34.5 with optional a 34.0. Top splits seem to be 32.5 so i'm still miles away but getting slightly better.
I usually look at the lap/race times of the cars in the split above mine for comparisons. That way its less demoralising than looking at the top split aliens' times and seeing I'm miles off.

Up to 2.9k now which is surprising given that IMSA has been at Road Atlanta this week, and all the carnage this brings. I'm not a blazing quick driver tbh. I can lap fairly quickly very consistently and safely. This method clearly is working for me since I never thought (at the start of the year) that I'd be nearly at 3k come Christmas.

Avoiding DNF seems to be the way. I had a long period of being taken out and losing 100+ iRating. Once I did a mental reset i've been chiping away now and gaining 10,20,30 here and there. I've got to a level now where the races are 1.9/2k SOF. I'm seeded 20+ and need to fininsh top 15 for an iR gain.

Canada....Wet....and I only drive the Ferrari GT3 (nobody else seems to be driving it so I guess that tells me it's no good in the wet)

1st race, blind, start 22, taken out, -51 ir
2nd race, qualified 9th, started in the pit lane. Caught the pack within 1/2 a lap, taken out by another pit lane starter. -66 ir
3rd race, started 3rd, finished 5th, clean race. +43 ir

I've booked some coaching with Coach Dave, it's not untill a week on Friday. I'll report back here how it goes.

I really enjoy the wet races. I don't enjoy them when I'm deep in the pack.

I'm running the 160 minute IMSA Endurance at Road Atlanta this weekend. Hoping to do the Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon slots. Will be tough doing them solo (IN the GTP class obviously) but i find then so rewarding to do.

Coaching tonight at Spa....will report back afterwards. Spa in the Ferrari 296 GT3.

Funnily enough the Ferrari GT3 fixed is there this week so i've driven it a few times. Best laps in each race as follows:

2:19.369, 2:20.020, 2:19.423

I also did a TT using a setup 2:20:238

I guess the races being faster can be down to draft and lower fuel. I've loaded in a pro ghost to race against but it's impossible. I lose 3 tenths on the 1st corner and by the end of the kemmel straight i'm nearly a second down.

I think I have turned enough laps now to have reached the upper limit of my skills. So lets see what coaching brings.....

Predictions for my post at 19:15 tonight :-)

How does the coaching work? Do they talk to you whilst spectating or something?
Do they host a private practice session for it?

Voice call via discord, then he watches via screen sharing.

Initially we went through my setup and he changed settings on my wheel FFB, pedals I had fine and then iRacing audio adjustments.

I drove 1 lap and that was all he needed to tell me where I was slow. My lines, 85% good, throttle application fine, brakes - rubbish.

After that I dove and he gave advice on each sector. Just gradully improving. By the end I was much more confident on braking lateer and turning in harder.

I did 2 races afterwards and was just some much more relaxed and faster. I hope I have learnt actual driving techniques rather than just the track. Time will tell but over all it was a positive session.

Now you just gotta learn how to gain the info he gave you from telemetry (such as in VRS) rather than an expensive coach, once you know how to find out where you're slow relative to a faster drivers telemetry there won't be much need for coaching... unless of course you're happy to keep paying for it in which case all good.

The delta app does this and yes I’ve used it. But I didn’t know why I was slow, I could see it but now I know.

I'm absolutely buzzing. I am usually awful in the rain, every single time I end up crashing out and it's just an all round bad experience.

I did a race just now in the GT Spring Simucube Series, so GT3 cars, at Watkins Glen. I loaded into the race and was devastated to see it was raining. Somehow something clicked and I qualified 7th out of 25, despite being the number 20 car. I ended up with 7 incident points over the 40 minute race, mostly off tracks and two where I hit the wall, but thankfully minimal damage. I ended up coming 5th. I couldn't believe it.

I forgot to set my little fan up before the race, and I race in VR, so I was sweating buckets by the end of it. I've been so bad recently and this was one of those races that pulls you right back into it all again. I love it! :D

That sounds fun, well done on the result, something about the rain racing is really immersive in VR.

The MX5 at the Nurburgring this week is brilliant.

I always hated the MX5, but decided to do the Ringmeister today after your post.

I finally got my first ever win at the track! I cannot believe it, I ended up absolutely loving the way the MX5 handles. I would like to think that having driven other more powerful cars has made me a better MX5 driver, who knows. So happy :D

Nice one on the win!

It's a beast of a track, just surviving is an achievement in itself. Only recently fully learnt it myself, using the free radical SR8 round there in VR is hoenstly incredible.

The MX5 is so much fun to drive once you're comfortable with abit of sideways action. I also drive the Skippy which is equally, if not more fun, with a high slip angle.

I struggle with the more pointy cars such as the F4 and GT3 in comparison.
