iRacing

If enough people are around it could be fun to host a session tomorrow night on maybe a free track with 1 or 2 free cars so even people who haven't bought content can join us.

If we can all agree on a time/cars/track since I don't like many of the free ones.

I'll be around this evening.

Not fussed about which car or track.

I can't do Sunday evening UK time as I'll be at work, but hopefully you guys have a good one!

I bought the Star Mazda today to give it a go. Had to check if driving aids were somehow turned on as it grips the track crazily well compared to the Skippy. I couldn't get the thing to spin out! Is it a bit too easy to drive or does Laguna just happen to suit it well? Looking forward to getting my C class so I can race with it. Should be this week :)

It's easy to keep it on track but you'll be miles off the pace unless you are right on the edge of crashing out. The Star Mazda has a lot of fast drivers and its when setup starts to get more complicated and important.

I don't know if any of you guys use it, but I installed iSpeed today. It's basically a lap analyzer and you can save your laps to share with mates or compare to others online in the database that people have uploaded. When you compare them in the "lap analyzer" it shows graphs for speed, how much brake you applied, steering angle, current gear, current speed, etc and overlays your lap against your targets one. It's interesting to see how the faster people drive.

I'm comparing my Laguna MX5 lap against one of the guys that does it in 1.40 and can see I brake sooner and less hard whereas they brake later but harder and for less time overall.

It's free, but prompts you for a donation - http://www.nessoft.com/ispeed/

Found out about it here - http://members.iracing.com/jforum/posts/list/1838954.page

Could be interesting to share laps with each other!

I used to use iSpeed back when it was an overlay on the monitor, then stopped when it needed an extra speed (and I realised that I made way more mistakes if I could see my split times during races/qualifying).

Didn't realise it had a lap analyser thingy, I used to use GPL Replay Analyser for that way back when, and it's a really useful tool so I guess it's time to start using it again :)

Yeah I don't bother with the split times thing. I just do a few laps and compare them to the 1min40 guy and see which parts to try harder in and then set off again. A second faster after messing about so just need to work on a few of the slower corners where I'm still being a granny! For a person new to racing like me it's proving useful as I have no idea how to get the best times so its a bit like a trainer I suppose! I didn't realise just how fast you can take corners haha

Hi guys, complete newbie here, recently started playing since I got a Driving Force GT for my birthday :)

I *think* I'm due a promotion today, could somebody confirm?

I'm trying to work out how to link my profile, or career stats... Something to show you.

I've finished 5 races in the Mazda Cup, 3 top 5 finishes, one 14th and one 16th. I've also completed a few time trials. My SR is 3.54

I really want to start racing in the Skip Barber and Lotus 79 so would really like to be promoted.

Cheers, Julian

lol:D

Its funny because they are hard to drive?

Yeah I kinda gathered that, but I have no interest in racing an MX5 really... Probably a typical noobie thing to say but whatever, even if I'm just practicing for a couple months.

You can still buy any car and track combo you want to get the practise in before you upgrade your license.

Im just about to give this a 1 month trial, i take it i can use a 360 pad for the time being? Also its asking for a referer email - if someone trusts me ther email you may gain something??

You won't really be able to get a feel or get around the track with a 360 pad unfortunately. You could get used to the pad a bit but you'll be around ten seconds off the pace.

I totally get that just want to try it out before i get a wheel and pedals.

Thanks for the link!

That's sort of a catch 22. You won't be able to make an informed choice as to whether the game is for you, unless you play with a wheel.

I'd say a lot of people who are new or come to iRacing already have a wheel and have already done a decent amount of sim racing in the first place.

Unfortunately they are right, I tried it with a pad and its silly. My flightstick worked better I think. Do or do not buy a wheel, there is no pad :p
iracing is tricky anyway, the mx5 was regularly swapping ends at 40mph which Im fairly sure it wont do usually but then my movements probably overly sharp

Id ideally like it to work with 360 for forza aswell. Also a clutch pedal would be good. The DFGT looks ok but doesnt seems to work with 360 on pc/ps3. What would be a good wheel that works for pc/360 and has a clutch? Thanks

Logitech wheels don't work with an Xbox properly and only then with a crappy adapter.

If you want Xbox and PC compatibility then it's got to be a Fanatec.

If you go for a Fanatec wheel to play on Xbox too then second hand is your best bet. At the moment the only wheels that Fanatec sell new that work on PC and Xbox require the purchase of pedals separately at a minimum cost of €79.95 plus shipping. I think the only wheels that work on PC and Xbox are the Forza Motorsport CSR Wheel EU (€199.99 plus shipping) and the Forza Motorsport CSR Elite Wheel EU (€599.95 plus shipping)
