iRacing

This post on the front page made me smile. It seems Murray became a believer later on and paid for content after all! :D

I was looking for RFactor info. Do you still play rfactor2 these days? How is it compared?

Hahaha :D I did only ever try the Mazda when I said that so didn't really give the game a fair chance.

I play it every now and then to see how its going and to drive the historic f1 cars but thats it. It isn't too bad but nothing special.

Grrrrrr.

I hate Mid Ohio.

Might as use milk floats to race around it because any kind of throttle input from anything with any power at all causes a spin.

*goes back to do more practice*

Rear ATB to 6, soften the springs. Add downforce to the rears, drop camber, lower rear tire pressures. Increase pre load these are just the basics to making the back more planted when putting the throttle down. Start with those. Main one being preload take that way up a load of clicks, then start bringing it down.

You can then move onto the throttle curve I find this helps a lot. Make the start more shallow. Also make sure the cars as planted as you can get it before hitting the throttle.

Or go drive the radical round there for 20 laps then come back to the MP4 and your think what the hell was I moaning about this is a doddle.

Seems I'm not that far off.

Well I probably am because there are hardly any official times for the MP4 on Mid Ohio Full.

I've done a 1:24.5 in testing, with full race fuel, which would be 5th fastest in the world.:eek:

At least I can keep it on the black stuff for the most part.

Feels like driving Miss Daisy around every corner.

Using the default high downforce setup.

I'll give your tips a whirl.

At least the Grand AM and GT Challenge are the same track this week, so only one to learn and practice.

Really enjoyed the MX5 at Laguna last week, a track I'm not fan of. Even managed a win.

I want to do another series alongside the Lotus 79 but the GT Challenge and Grand Am Sports Car always seem to be on the same track as the Lotus. I can't learn the same track with two cars at once :p

Last 5 tracks of the Lotus series are:

Sonama, VIR, Mosport, Ponoco and Spa.

GT Challenge is:

Road America, Phillip Island, Suzuka, Road Atlanta and Spa.

Grand AM is:

Road Atlanta, Watkins Glen, Barber, Indianapolis and Sonama.

I've been considering getting the IndyCar, it looks like a fun series. Could also try my hand at oval racing once I get the license :p

What does it handle like?

Like a understeering lotus 79 and very fast.

One word of caution though before you buy it dallara boys wont share setups and help you like lotus guys do so don't expect to just join a server and be given setups.

I did some brands with the dallara a couple of seasons ago and did a 1:10.953 which got me 12th on the stats practice times and I think I still have that setup but its the only one I do have sorry.

Its a rocket on a oval but the understeer hurts it on the road tracks compared to the Williams.for comparison I can do 1:01.699 in the Williams at brands but that was when Williams first came out and ive not driven it since as it has no sole compared to the lotus.

Got iRacing on a 3 for 1 month deal the other day, desperately wanted a wheel ever since my old one packed up completely so got a Logitech DFGT hopefully arriving tomorrow! Can't wait to get into this, don't fully understand how the seasons/leagues work yet but I'm sure I'll figure it out once I get going. It's stuck me in the 'France Club' automatically due to where I live now :( any way to change that?

Maybe I can finally drive the MP4 and C6R without being terrible soon then :D

Sounds like some fun to race midweek then while I'm waiting for the weekend Lotus races.

I've noticed that about a lot of the other communities in iRacing. After going from the Lotus 79 which generally has a lot of nice guys and great drivers to other series its a bit disappointing.

The sharing of the setups with me is because I came to iracing from GPL where most guys even the aliens would share setups so I just carried on doing it in iracing but it does upset some guys depending on the series.

Ovals setup is everything and I shocked upset and surprised a few when I shared dallara oval sets so much so I stopped driving it.

For the most fun and imo the best car in the series stick to Lotus.

I think you'll find that as the skill level required to race goes down, so does the attitude of the drivers.

I think the Lotus 79 and Skip Barber has the best communities in iRacing, both of them are really helpful to newcomers and are good guys.

I do plan on sticking with the Lotus for a long time but I want something else to drive once I give up trying to get those few tenths after 50 laps ;)

The Lotus 49 should be that car when it eventually arrives.

I tried GPL the other day but couldn't get everything working properly. Was looking forward to driving the Lotus 49 as well :p
