iRacing

well raced last night... mx5 lime rock... stacked it first corner giving way to a complete nob.... finished 2 laps down with a massive +4 rating ggrrrrr so frustrating.

twice last night during practice sessions my screen went totally black i could here sounds but nothing else. anyone else experienced the same or is it my luck with computers. never done it on any other game!!!

Hmmm, are you running the latest video card drivers? I'm not sure what else to suggest. a lot of the time in the mx5, unless I qualified high I would start in the plus then make up lots of places after the first few turns carnage. What course is the mx5 cup on this week?

Yesterday was a much better day for me, finished 1st 3 times in a row starting from pol position and finally second, I'm not on B license too.

If you'd like to run a practice session with me in the next hour then just add me: Matthew Stanton2 . I'm no Alien but maybe it would help you out.

The track will change Tuesday, Lime Rock can be a bit chaotic, it's such a fast little course with few passing places.

was taken out 3 times looked at the ratings after and im not surprised.... saved the replay to file a complaint

ok another race completed enjoyed it although did have to do a few emergency maneuvers which cost me my only fault point but how the hell did someone get +44 points with 14 incidents and another +53 with 5 i only got +19 with 1 fault an could it be i was held up for 5 laps by 2 back markers which lowered my average lap times??? confused lol

They got that because they passed 2.00 with their +rating, you get a boost or around .4 -.5 to stop you bouncing around when you get close to a licence upgrade.

I'll be around later tonight if you fancy that practice still, I quite like Lime Rock full course.

yea sounds good buddy couldnt help it did a second race got +61 and promotion so im no longer a rookie.....

As Muska says, if you hover over that (?) it tells you that they've either been bumped up by 0.4 or down. When you cross 2.00 or 3.00 instead of you possibly teetering on the edge of being dumped down or up, at the end of the season, it gives you a hefty nudge :D

So if you were 1.99 and scored +0.05, you'd be 2.04 + 0.40, putting you at 2.44.
Same for 2.01 and getting -0.05, you'd be 1.96 + -0.40.

The idea behind it is that if someone gained enoug SR to be at 3.01 at wk11, they might opt not to race in wk12, for fear of losing SR and not gaining promotion for wk13. So they give you a bump.
Of course, if you've had that bump and slumped to 3.01 then, thats your own doing and i dont see how they can fix that.

As far as i know, it goes:
1.00 = auto demoted
2.00 = demoted at wk13
3.00 = promoted at wk13*
4.00 = auto promoted*
4.99 = limit
* = provided you've met the MPR of 4 races or TT's at your current license level (ie 4 B series races to get A license, 40 C races wont do).

[phew, wrote the above, hit submit then turns out my ISP is down momentarily!]

I've not touched iRacing since doing the WCSC race at 3am last Tuesday, havent been in the mood to do anything all week, and ive just sat watching TV looking over at the PC and thinking i'll do some GT3 practice tomorrow... plenty of time :D

Finally did a few laps early hours last night/this morning, and was surprised i wasnt all that far off the pace.
Just done the 7pm race, its Motegi (East, the secion that doesnt incl main straight, but about 75% of the track) and it was my first time out at night.
Anyone who's had hate for the Ice-Grip in the first few laps has never driven a GT3 at night :D It opens your mind to an all-new experience of what hatred is really intended for!

2749 SOF & #14, so expected to finish mid-pack to come out of it with a positive iRating. I started 23rd, 2 behind me, the race went green as we're turning into the final hairpin. I'd decided i'd sacrifice racing for an incident free race. I crawled around the hairpin, applied the throttle in a straight line, slid and went bonk into the pit wall :D:D HURRAH! Fortunately, a 0x, and no damage. Lets try this again, ey? :o

First 3 laps was very much tip-toeing for me, avoiding a couple of cars who'd slid but i think that was only 2 that were near me. About 6 laps in theres a pack of 4 cars in front and one of them was warping like a maniac, ive seen blinking cars and bits of warping, but nothing like this. You'd get dust clouds right in the middle of chicanes, and 'car stopped' messages for no reason. I sent a msg, but it made no difference and nobody agreed (maybe on voice chat, dunno) so i just had to hold back, i wasnt going to try and race amongst a pack of drivers when 1 of those could skittle the lot of them and ruin my race. On lap 11 he made a mistake, we all got past and we could all race again, each going 1sec faster than we'd been going before even past the point when the good rubber drops off. Got past a couple and then had a decent scrap for 17th (where i finished) including a few very marginal overlaps (doing the over-under twice) which to the other guys credit, he was very sharp and noticed i was there just in time and then managed to get him going around the outside of the final hairpin.

Ended up crossing the line with my 0x :D but -17 iR which i'll take, i expected much worse. Came away with +61 (+0.4 bump) which i was very surprised at, but much needed since getting a pounding wk1 at Sebring!
Warping guy's ping was 800! Absolutely no thought for anyone else in there.

The good old UK. I havent gone back and looked to see just how bad it was for the 3 around him, but it was bad enough that it was really distracting me from a few seconds behind.

:(

Signed up to do the first GT3 race at 1am, wasnt enough people so i opted out.
Found out later on there was 8 ppl. For starters, it said (7) which ive always assumed meant the total number, but i also thought it was a 10 car minimum, but i guess i'd seen that from WCSC and not realised each series is different.
So that cost me 107 iR, i was tempted to do it anyway, but i'd just done about 2h practice and figured no point as my arms were aching (im a wimp) and might as well wait for an official one.

The 5am one only had 6 people, and frankly i hadnt a clue what would happen if i bailed on that one, so i just did it anyway. Managed to finish with 0x which is remarkable. First Motegi, now a 75min Road America. A miserable +0.16 for it, and obviously no iR. Came 1st for what little difference it makes, and managed to go the full distance with pretty consistent laps, and was keeping up and closing on the guy who was leading (his car looked like it actually had a setup on, not my Sebring with 1DF less attempt) but he screwed up just before the half-way. Not sure i could have beat him, but i could keep up fine 2-3sec behind him. I also put 10 laps too much fuel :D finished with 10.0 gallons, like a nub.

With getting caught out with unofficial races, there are two ways to check:

There's the cautious way of entering the session and checking the bar at the top, it specifically says "Unofficial Race" if it's not going to count for iR/points.

Or, although I'm never really sure whether to truly trust this or not ¬_¬ the buttons on the website for joining/withdrawing from the session, for non-official races the bottom button will be "Withdraw", for an official race it will say "Forfeit", so if it says Forfeit and you press it you'll lose ~100 iRating, otherwise you should be fine.

I generally quickly join the session to check :p

good to see you on the track last night buddy... when you joined i think i was on my second lap ever of that track and runing it the high 1.29's got it down to low 1.26 thanks to your info on lines ect one thing i didnt realise the mx5 was much faster managed a low 1.25 on 2nd lap however not consistant its a lot more twitchy than the pontiac as i have no force feedback yet i can only tell its going to kick by sight not feel... think a wheel purchase is next lol

still d licence and 2.95 already hopefully will go up again quickly wanna race the ruf lol

Signed up for this last night, and had a bit of a practice. Did a fair few practice runs at Lime Rock in an mx-5 to try and learn the circuit and car. Clearly I need more practice as I was able to string a few laps together, but would then make a hash of a corner and end up shunting the barriers. It was fun, but I'm clearly going to have to do something about my wheel/pedals set up to make them more comfy for longer.

You're welcome Matt, I think that will be a good course for the MX-5, lots of places to pass and if someone is slightly off the pace a great place to catch them is on the oval, with lots of room to pass.

I settled down to do the 10:45 RUF cup race on Charlotte road course last night, my last before the track changed, and it was going really well. I started on Poll, great start and leading for the first few laps with only one real contender, I was faster round the course but on the oval he could hold slightly higher speed than me. By lap 10 lead had changed places and coming onto the oval he made a small mistake and I hit it much faster than him, were were side by side all the way around and I managed to out brake him on T1, holding the lead for the next lap pushing the gap a little further till coming down the main straight, I brake for T1, turn in and SMACK! My race is over.

Checking back on the replay, the guy in 2nd didn't brake and turned so as to strike me, destroying my nearside rear wheel and ending my race a little under half way, giving me a 4x for the pleasure. I was fuming and all he could say was he forgot to brake. A B licence racer, who was fast in a close race with me up to this point... It's the first time I've filed a protest sadly but it just seemed too deliberate to me.

To console myself, here are a couple of screens of the latest paint I'm using for the season in the RUF cup. I didn't make it but I have a few changes planned to personalise it a bit more. (I have permission from the maker)
