iRacing

I will pop in and watch you for a bit mate, who you racing with?

Vader Trophy Racing in the HPD - an all British team. We could have done with our Aussie for this, but his unavailability means I'm doing the graveyard stint. Race starts at 1pm and our other 2 drivers will do a brief stint each, then I'll do 3, go to sleep and wake up about 1am. My PC will be off while I'm sleeping, so from 6pm until 1am or so there will be no stream, but it should be on for the rest of the race (so long as the car lives anyway!).

Don't know what split we'll be in, but our qualifying pace is currently good enough to be in one of the first 2 splits (though the average iRating also has a bearing).

I'll post a link later. :)

Post up the link, I'll check it out from time to time.

I could make an OCUK paint if anyone wants to make some suggestions on how it should look?

Good luck to you guys who are doing the 24

Cheers!

Race gets under way at 1pm. After 5 1/2 years away, we're looking forward to it!

Cheers guys. We lost 2nd, but managed to finish 3rd, purely because the car in 4th had similar damage from much earlier in the race. The car itself was an understeering mess, overtaken by GT3 cars on the straights, only to catch and overtake them on the infield, before they blew past you on the straights again. Repeat ad nauseam.

Not quite the satisfaction I've had in the past (my own first stint at about 2:30pm yesterday) was a mess, but for some reason my form after I got up after midnight was strong and consistent. Before Neil suffered from that Ford GT's antics.

Over 400 teams signed up yesterday, with over 900 drivers registered before the race started (you can sign in after the rest of your team have registered, so it could have been well over 1000 drivers). We were in the 4th split (out of 10, each with over 40 cars), so I guess quite a strong showing considering.

Edit: 1600 drivers entered in total. Wow. :o

Managed to string a few good results together now that I'm not having to learn a new track every damn week!

Aiming for 4k iR before the season's over too. I might avoid Bathurst WSCS though... lol

That is a nice string of results!

I think you'll definitely hit that 4k if you miss out Bathurst!

After having a bit of a nightmare with that BMW rim I bought from ebay (it was the part at fault in the end and the seller is refusing to refund me, ebay have stepped in, which is a shame as he's a fellow iRacer) I did manage to pounce on someone selling the Porsche rim on iRacing forums instead, so fingers crossed I have better luck this time!

My safety rating went through the roof thanks to the 24 hours. It only counts individual laps for each driver (so if doesn't matter if one of your teammates gets 300 incident points if you only got a dozen), but all of our team hit the max for the class we had, so some are at class A 4.99! I myself am only at Class C 4.99 (only done 32 races in total).

It's a shame there's no way to calculate iRating, though that would be nigh on impossible in a team event.

I'm looking forward to the Bathurst endurance race. We've done it in endurance racing in GTP and at least one of the cars came away unscathed, so it's very possible. The nature of the track means it's automatically going to be harder than Daytona of course, but I think they're looking at using the V8 cars, so no mixed class, which is where most of the major incidents happened at Daytona (in our split AFAIK there were 4 or 5 instances of cars nailing the wall by themselves in a major way, but across 24 hours that's pretty remarkable. Most of the incidents was the result of contact with other cars, as we were well aware!).

Don't know if we'll do the Sebring 12 hours. At the moment I'm going to say "yes", but I'll see how I feel when we start testing. They've also added a Watkins Glen 6 hour race and a Spa 24 hour race... now they are tempting...

I currently don't have a wheel but I guess I could use a 360 controller. How easy is this to get into? Is there a way to try the game (like a trial) before committing? Only ask because new members can get a 2 year sub for like £58.75. I just wouldn't want to put that amount in if I didn't enjoy it but then again, I wouldn't want to miss out of getting the cheap deal.

There used to be a 3 month free deal, although I'm not sure if it's still around.
*edit* looks like it's expired: http://www.iracing.com/nurburgring1000/

You could pay month-to-month to start with if you wanted though.

It's very easy to get in to. Rookies is a bit of a crapshoot though - it only exists to get you out of rookies. Driving with a pad is possible, but will be difficult. I would strongly suggest you get yourself a wheel if you want to get the most from the game. A Driving Force GT or G27 would be ideal and will last you a very long time.
