Kaap actually ran TR maxed out with two 5970s and didn't run out of VRAM. That's a pretty new game
Can't remember if he ran @1600 or 1080 (gonna guess 1080!)
1080p for the bench.
Umm bf3,bf4 stalker run on a 5870
So yes please feel free to carry on
and bf3 can be run fully maxed on ingame settings
And dont start trying to compare Wont Run to cant max a game as thats two different issuses

If you begin to cut down options (even more than MSAA), then yes, you can fit in less than 2GB or even 1,5GB. Usually for "more than 2GB" you need a 2nd or 3rd GPU to make it viable all around, plus larger resolution and settings.
To be fair, no one can predict what will happen within the next 2 years. I'll go with the one that offers the best ratio between the things you need from that hardware at the moment.

No it can't....
And this thread is about VRAM.... 5870 does not have enough... My old 5850's in Crossfire didn't have enough... hence I sold them.

It's the old VRAM debate again! Has it not already been covered many times with modern games at resolutions of 1440p and higher that you will hit unplayable frame rates before you breach the VRAM barrier regardless of whether you have 2GB or more VRAM?

You would be surprised.... My 5850's were VRAM thrashing like a bitch in STALKER Clear Sky because of lack of memory.. Not a problem with a 2Gb card.
Aside from **** poor tessellation performance the 5870 isn't actually that bad of a card still.

That was the VRAM used, so that makes the 4GB 290/X redundant for 4K then.

We're are not talking about can't run were are talking about max and the future....
And I've owned 5850's and they can't.... Unless you have some super secret 5870 that can run BF3 on max.... A feet much faster cards can't do.

You have to half the VRAM used.... You used 2087Mb which aint all that far from my result.
And what clocks and settings?
