is 2gb not enough?

We're are not talking about can't run were are talking about max and the future....

And I've owned 5850's and they can't.... Unless you have some super secret 5870 that can run BF3 on max.... A feet much faster cards can't do.

Avg - 31fps Not idea but not off your average from your Avg - 34fps from the Benchmark run u did which i guess is acceptable?

apprently not that secret of a 5870 but my was o'ced to 950core i will agree
Also interesting the 6950's gained 0 increase from a 1gB to 2GB version

87% downloaded

The thing I don't like when I run this bench is the fps drop to zero when it exits the benchmark, actually running it is very smooth.

Mine doesn't drop down low... Don't remember my 7950's, 7970's or 4Gb 270x's dropping either... Not even my GTX 780 for that matter.

Please keep this debate civil everyone, as I feel this needs clarification. So many times this VRAM rears its head and nothing ever gets proven, so the more who join in, the better it will be.

Friendly debate is good.

Getting old bud? :p

Doesn't matter how many people chip in, you'll never prove 'x' amount is enough. 1Gb is enough for a 5870, 1.5Gb is enough for a 580, 2Gb is enough for 6** cards, the problem arises when you add more and more cards (grunt increases meaning you can push higher settings)

That's why we've always stated 2 cards 'x' amount is enough, only when you start adding a third+fourth do you really want to get the doubled VRAM card.

No idea why i quoted you :D You for the most part agree with me (i think)

Debate is good helps us all learn and i think we have all been pretty civil so far

Indeed and I am sure we will all carry on.

It would be good for any 680/770/670 or any 2GB cards to run Hitman bench with everything maxed (8xMSAA). Run GPU-Z in the background, click on sensors and click on memory used till it shows maxed. That will show how much VRAM you used :)

Any other VRAM demanding games out that we know of? And preferably with a bench?

I would, just not downloading 23gb for the sake of one game i'll never play :D
My internet is shocking.

Crysis 3 can get brutal.... Even the first Crysis game when running 8xMSAA can break the 2Gb mark in places.

The first Metro game with MSAA on too......

Deferred game engines suck up VRAM with MSAA on...

Well summarised. I think each of the cards on the edge all can push framerates at the in game settings that they're intended to. Yes a 1.5GB 580 will run out of VRAM at 1440p in BF4 but if you have it 3GB it would still be a slideshow.

Single card I don't think anybody sane has any argument but I agree that when you start doubling or trebling cards up you need to consider it more.

The first Metro game with MSAA on too......

I tested that with 680s and 7950s at 5760x1080 and the results weren't any different (give or take) between the two. I certainly wasn't VRAM limited at max settings. It was close though I think the 680s were using 1950. At triple screen.
