Dear OcUK Friends...

I may have accidentally got a bit carried away with eBay this evening and happened to bag myself a AMD HD 7990 - I won't tell you the price, it will make your eyes water.

However, it gets worse. Today I also bought 3 x R9 290 cards and a 1000W Silverstone PSU.

My next question is - will me shiny new PSU be enough to power these four cards? If you haven't guessed already, I'll be mining with them so all the other componenets are very low specification.

Thanks in advance!

In the words of the virgin mary ..... **** again? You know, that 7990 is a duel gpu card right and that it will not work with all them R9 290's as that is more then quad fire?

It won't technically be used for Quadfire as they won't all be linked together.
There is know way a 1000w psu will power that lot. I doubt it would have enough power to run just the 3 290's with a cpu :(. The 3 290 will use 870w and the 7990 is 375w thats over 1240w of gpu. You need one of those superflower psu's that 8 pack was using. Even then you will also need some detla fans to remove all that heat from your case.

What are the rest of the system specs, and what will the machine be used for? (mining?)

The simple answer however is no, the PSU will not be big enough. You will need at least 1200W for that lot, and if you plan on pushing all of the system to 100% load I'd want 1300W or even 1500W.

Does the PSU even have enough power connectors?

Go home Ether, you're drunk.

I think I'm actually going to cry...

It will be used for mining yes. The CPU is a Sempron 145 Single Core and an AS Rock 970 AM3+

Do you think I'd be best sacking off one/two of the 290 cards or the 7990?

Will try and send the 1000W PSU back and get a bigger one?

WOW, return the 7990, paypal will honour it.

If you got all those cards for mining, i would wait a few more days at the least with all this mad pricing going on today. BTC dropped massively apparently due to the Chinese companies crypto traders and miners being banned from common paying sites that is used to cash out. As such a huge segment of the crypto mining and trading community this could go two ways for the worth of BTC and with its current falling, buying in now seems risky. This could mean many people cashing out of their mining investment due to it becoming far less profitable in exchanging the BTC into hard cash. Worst comes to worst, you find that BTC are on their way up again in a week or two and you get the chance to buy up many panic seller cards for much cheaper than today. Hopefully they will be on the rise in a few weeks and loads of cards have flooded the market from the scare.

The PSU 8pack used is a beast but i think someone may have mentioned they got a superflower 1000w to run 3 290x's, dont quote me though as that sounds a bit on teh risky side. I know 3 290x's has brought a handful of PSUs to their knees already which have been rated at 1200.

Something like a Thermaltake ToughPower XT 1375W should be able to handle the whole lot at 100% usage with relative ease, but PSU's of that calibre are quite pricey.

Just use 2 psu's,it's a mining rig so dont have to look the business, you have got a good psu there so use that for the cards and another for the rest of the system, not worth sending anything back at this point.
