is it possible to haggle with insurers?

as with anything its a sale .

so someone will always offer a lower price. they want to sell they need to make money.

I need to ring up bell and haggle as my renewal has come through at £550 odd but I need to add my 3 points for speeding on the motorway (59 in a 40 = 4:00am and no one to be seen!) and only it's come out at around £600! On any site I can try, will be happier with £500 all in but will see how it goes..

Are there any sites really good for limited mileage as I do less then 2500 miles a year probably around 1500 @ 24 years old in a 2001 S3 as many don't seem to take it into account to much.

It's always cheaper to pay it in one sum (on a credit card if you want) and pay that off instead.

Run a few online quotes (without lying), then give Chris Knott insurance a call, they'll sort you out!

My Integra insurance was £400 though them last year

Just been having fun doing an amended insurance quote for my girlfriend with Diamond who needs to change her address and occupation.

I ran some speculative quotes with the details used to take out the policy. The price Diamond quoted was £395.

Then with the change of address and occupation it was reduced to £375.

Yet when we filled out the Diamond amendment form, they wish to charge her £42.50. This makes absolutely no sense to me as even just the admin fee accounts for £17.50.

Anyone had any similar experiences and the best way to resolve?

Thinking of ringing up and mention a complaint to the FOS...

Yes DO haggle!

I work at a brokers and we are allowed to add up to 30% fee onto the insurer premium (used to be 25% but recently went up). We always quote high and gauge the reaction, but then chip away at our fee as required.

Even once our fee has been stripped and the quote is flat we can still remove a bit out of our commissions to close the deal.

So haggle!

That doesnt explain why More Than quoted me lol money to renew my policy with them and then refused to budge an inch when I told them they were quoting more than double that of their competitors?

Some insurers quite simply wont work out cheap, not sure how it works tbh.
Remember when not paying in full I'm pretty sure I've seem liek 30% APR on the balances

I was with More Than last year. This year I went through the specialist insurers and had some good results by playing Adrian Flux, A-Plan Insurance and City Insurance off against each other. Went with Adrian Flux in the end.

That's who I'm with now. No updates guys. Wedding anniversary weekend

Done a little bit more shopping

£222 deposit
£88 x 10 months

Which is around £100 cheaper than my renewal

My in-law has given me a alfa romao 156 on a 02 plate and they want roughly the same, so I decided to try a multi car policy and they want £3700

Between the two there only worth around 3k

Or probably even cheaper if you do the credit card idea.

Divide the lump sum price by 12, setup a DD to the credit card for that price monthly.

Baffling me the amount of people that are paying interest to pay monthly when you can save a large chunk with a tiny application.

And yes, all insurers can 'price-flex' providing you meet the criteria (Was no claims/convictions in the last year where I used to work), notice if you ring them up and say I want to cancel automatic renewal for example, they'll say have you found it cheaper elsewhere? They will want the business.

There is no such thing as a blacklist of addresses, so if you can't get credit and can see no reason for it go through your credit file, available for free from experian and Equifax (cancel after the free trial, and don't pay for a score as they are a waste of time) as there may well be an error, or something that is pushing it down that you've forgotten about. Have a look around for specialist insurers that deal with the type of cover you want, many of the specialist insurers will need ringing and won't exist on comparison sites and the like. A couple of hours research and ringing should save you a good chunk of money.

Some vehicles seem to be regarded as the spawn of satan by insurers, my mum and dads old car, seat Ibiza 1.9 tdi was ridiculous, last time I looked it was stupidly expensive, over double the cost of insuring myself on civic type r's, golf Gti, Mondeo st220 etc.

Don't know what it was but they hated that car for some reason :-/
