Is it time to ban LED Headlights

What I don't get is the trucks with perfectly decent headlights... Plus another dozen over the cab, plus another half dozen on a chrome bumper bar. Seriously, what is the need?!

Maybe it's to counteract the neon Arsenal emblem reflecting off the inside of the windscreen...
:D

I've often wondered this myself, and how they manage to drive at night and see correctly with all the neon signs is beyond me!

The weird thing is (so much so maybe i am wrong) but i thought it was illegal to drive at night with foreign light sources in your cabin, because it messed up your external vision.

ie so you are not meant to drive with your passenger with a light on reading or what ever.

i guess i must be wrong on that otherwise 50% of lorry drivers would be stuffed.

whilst I know it's true cars have interior lights... that doesn't mean that much. they also have cup holders but (in the UK) technically it's illegal to drink (or eat) and drive as well .

that said i stand corrected and I did suspect as much.

arguably there should be legal limits of amount of lights inside a moving car. hard to legislate however.

btw that link is spot on. thinking about it it was my parents who told me that likely when I was mucking about with the in car lights or torches etc

stupid Iphone running carplay seems to dim it's screen to near nothing at nightime, so I guess it's compliant with the myth,
I need to access it as well as the touch screen for music/map apps without full functionality on the vehicle screen
will be exploring some of the options here https://www.reddit.com/r/CarPlay/comments/qzwhqc/automatic_screen_dim/

Mokka-e first modern suv I'd driven in years had nice led lights/midnight-sun, with obvious cut-offs so it wasn't blinding anyone, the advantage of height.

e: stupid Audi has interior light about 6000K - should have interior lighting option like red october ?

funnily enough last night I was blinded by white van man who had parked on the wrong side of the road facing me with lights on last night.

they were not fancy lights but the alignment must have been off on them . it was v distracting.

If they were on the wrong side, they might have been aligned fine, they are set to not dazzle drivers when driving normally. I do find it's even worse if someone does this and they parks on a kerb too.

Should be if a car is fitted with LED headlights they have auto leveling on them, so drivers can not angle them to dazzles people.

I find the German trend of a missive horizontal strip of light to be ridiculous and too bright.

Looks cheap too. It's often hard to tell if it's OEM or aftermarket.

Regulations need updating and they need to be got rid of as the whole point in a light at each corner is to help depth perception at night :/

Tesla cars depth perception will be more messed up with these bar style of lights, too .....but aren't they putting one on the new juniper Y

Sorry if I've missed it in this thread, but I'm sure I've seen that Osram are doing road legal LED Retrofit kits now. Might just be TUV for Germany, but has anyone seen such things?

if they are gonna clamp down on that, i am not gonna argue either way on it... but whilst they are at it i would also like them to clamp down on people driving at night with either 1 or i have even seen 2 headlights out (forcing a choice of full beam or sidelights).

having rules in place is all well and good but so long as they are not enforced then it is just a waste of time imo.
