Is it worth me getting a 7950,7970,7990?

My main reserve for the 7990 is that most of them aren't good overclockers.
Which is making them take a beating at both price & performance against 2x7970s

Also wasn't that few months ago, where bit-tech had the review, and CF 2x7970s beat not only the 7990 but the mighty Titan? and the 7970s weren't even overclocked)

Which is making the whole thing just weirder, that now where the 7970 is at <£250 and is more cost effective to buy 2 of there, than one Titan or a GTX780?

Thought the 7990 suffered from coil whine? If it wasn't for that, and remaining unconvinced the micro-stutter problems are fixed, I'd be all over this deal

They do, but mainly in benching, also the coil whine calms down after some days usage.

7990 is an awesome card, would be my choice every time whilst sub £600 :)

I've got 1080p and notice the difference of switching up from 1 to 2 cards immediately...restriction free settings at this res and in the future you know you'll go for a higher res :)

Oh I'm a proponent of dual-GPU @ 1080p, it's what I'm planning on myself. But we were talking about tri-fire 7970s basically (7970+7990). ;)

you might want to have a look into 7990 crossfire,, the bechmarks i have seen have shown that the top card will just overheat

I have fully investigated already,
These cards can now get almost double the framerate out of games as they should.
Also, I have an EK watercooled system so heat problems are not an issue.
Thanks for looking out for me though!!
:-)

Think I might upgrade to this board as dual pci x 3:

7990 stonking card and buy for anyone upgrading and not from a 7950\70. Cost me £185 to add another 7950 for xfire, although I really wanted a 7990 it made no financial sense to spend £479 minus sale of 7950, say £150 = £329 for similar performance, made no sense. :D

Will the 7990 support Mantle or is that only the new 200 series?

Im running 5870 in crossfire at the moment which iv had for like 4 years and was either going for a 290 or the 7990 but since your saying the 7990 are going to go up in price i don't know which to go for now lol.

The price of the 7990 is very good,my question is would it be worth me purchasing one as I have a gtx690 and a 2560x1600 res monitor or is it a waste of money.

Apparently AMD have stated that mantle is available on ALL GCN cards.

Also, the 79** cards are actually quite close in architecture to R9 cards except they are more efficient and of a smaller build, again apparently.

If your happy with your set up. Stay as is.
If your thinking about 4k (or eyefinity) then you should consider upgrading when the the time comes.

Ok,thanks guys 7990 ordered.Decided to buy the card while its a bargain and shop over the next few months for the 1440 monitor. Bit underwhelmed by the choice there really.

One last question tho

My psu has 2x6+2 pcie connectors and the 7990 needs 2x8 .I take it i am good with the spare 2 dangling next to the 6 to make the 6 an 8?

Sorry to hijack this thread but now your questions have been answered I have a couple myself.

1) What is the minimum PSU for a system with one 7990?
2) How many games do you get with the 7990? Is it the same gold voucher you get with the 7970?
3) Would a 7990 perform worse with a low power CPU than a weaker card. e.g. Is it better to have a fast CPU and a 7970 or a medium CPU with a 7990?

Thanks ( bought a 7979 but the price of these keeps niggling me lol).

I recently put a 7990 alongside my 7970 (trifire spacing was not suitable) but the heat now dumped into the case is ridiculous (7970 is not ref either ..) and my PSU now winds up its fan like I never heard before, and the cpu gets a bit toasty .. that's with an i920 @ 4.2GHz

Performance wise, it loses out in benchies but for gaming it is excellent on 2560x1600 @ 60Hz and no need to overclock on anything except maybe Crysis 3 which I play at 1150/1650 clocks for smooth gameplay with all settings max and 4xMSAA .. dips to 30fps range on occasion probably down to CPU but 90%+ of the time its 50fps & above with cpu usage up into the 90% range in places too (nearly time for an upgrade maybe but not quite yet!)

Overall I am well happy with the 7990 upgrade, have been enjoying my games a bit more lately for some reason (still crap at them though lol :)
