Is it worth me getting a 7950,7970,7990?

Thanks. I doubt I'd be trifire though; I'd DSR the 7970 unopened and swap for a 7990. The reason for considering it is this:

I was about to upgrade CPU, motherboard and RAM. I would have got a mobo costing around £160 which allowed for a future crossfire/SLI. I don't know if I would eventually crossfire but having that ability seems a sensible move. But the equivalent mobo without crossfire is only £90. So that's £70 towards the 7990.

7990 = £469 - £70 (by reducing cost of mobo) - £30 (selling the games) = £369.

By the time I eventually need to upgrade GPU in the future I'd probably also need to get a new motherboard/CPU anyway. A single 7990 will use less power and generate less noise than a pair of 7990's. However I currently only have a 600w PSU so I am not sure that would be enough for a 7990? It is a Seasonic so good quality.

** The cheaper motherboard will crossfire but the second slot would only run at x4.

Aint the 7970 only about 5% or so better than the 7950 if you OC it? Mos 7970s are 250 while 7950 is now as low as 180. So why do ppl favor the 7970?

Bragging, willy waving call it what you will. For some its just having the best of the best or just because they could. Different reasons all round. Why buy a Titan when a 780 costs less and can perform the same? infact why a Titan when 2 7950's or a 7990 can beat it? Horses for courses.

Most if not all 7950's are voltage unlocked too where as the majority of 7970's are locked.

I own a 7970 but only because I got it really cheap

I've just bought a Matrix 7970 Platinum for £250, I really don't think you can get more bang for your buck at the minute especially seeing as you get a boat load of games free with it :-)

I was going to wait till the 290x cards were available before getting a new card but as i understand the price of the 7990 will be going up?
Since its extremely unlikely the 290x will be faster than the 7990 is it a good idea to go for that?
Also which model would be the best to go for the HIS or the Gigabyte model as those are the only 2 i see available under £500 on here.

If money isn't a problem go 7970GHZ edition of some description, mostly faster than a 7990 and at this point in time only costs a little more.
If you want to keep it cheap 7950's, similar performance to 7970's best bang for buck.

Doesn't a 7990 use just one PCI slot though where as two 7970's would need two.....As my second slot only runs x4 so thats a lot of lost bandwidth.

The 7990 will be faster than the 290x but it will not have frame pacing support for 4k or multi-monitor until December and the 290x will have it at launch.

How can you price the 7990 over the 290x when some of the functionality remains broken.

If AMD want to raise the price of the 7990 they need to fix their driver first.

Between a pair of 7970s and a single 7990, I would go for the 7990 though.

Just want to confirm...even though the 7990 is 2 cards on a single slot...does that mean it only uses 1 x 16x? Compared to a normal crossfire combo that would use 1 x 16 and 1 x 16/8/4 depending what you have.
