Is it worth me getting a 7950,7970,7990?

Doesn't a 7990 use just one PCI slot though where as two 7970's would need two.....As my second slot only runs x4 so thats a lot of lost bandwidth.

Just want to confirm...even though the 7990 is 2 cards on a single slot...does that mean it only uses 1 x 16x? Compared to a normal crossfire combo that would use 1 x 16 and 1 x 16/8/4 depending what you have.

Yes 1x16

I was about to pull the trigger on a 7990 but then I read the 7990 vs 690 frame pacing article on Tom's and it really put me off. It is very disappointing to read that there are still major problems with some high profile games.

It is a real shame because the 7990 seems to offer awesome raw performance for the money. Trouble is, if that doesn't actually translate into smooth gameplay, then it isn't worth the benchmark graph it is plotted on.

The 7990 has sheer horsepower and AMD are making good ground on fixing the issues.

GO FOR IT! :)

Trouble is AMD ain't going to have it fixed in 14 days - I suspect their attention will be elsewhere in the coming weeks. I can't see them spending much more time trying to fix "nVidia" games like Metro Last Light when there are AMD bundle games like Far Cry 3 which have issues. They have said that they intend to fix Eyefinity, OpenGL and old DirectX 9 stuff, but haven't said when...

It wouldn't be so bad if you could run the 7990 as a 7970 for the troublesome titles. But that is not the case and you end up with a worse experience.

It think I will go for the 290X instead. Yes it is likely to be the same cost for lower raw performance but that would seem a wise trade off to avoid the Crossfire issues.

Seriously tempted by a 7990 now but I was going to wait for the new cards. Hm, always tend to prefer newer tech. Still leaning towards the new cards I think.
