Is the MX5 the new Mondeo?

If anyone was going to take offence at such a statement it would be you. Lighten up man, its not as if what I said is a total lie is it, its a common trend visible to any regular user

Any car forum will have people posting opinions and recommendations based on things they've never driven so they follow popular opinion on what's best, sometimes this is a bad thing however due to the nature of people who post on the OCUK forums it has the good fortune of offering experience and insight from just about every single car maker. These ‘Lemmings’ are simply saying what those in the know would have said anyways.

The simple fact is someone like myself or lots of the other regulars will tell the OP the best car to buy, it’s not our fault that we recommend the best car in each sector is it? This means we will be repeating ourselves lots but perhaps if the OP used the search function then we wouldn’t have to.

People posting stuff about the regulars spouting out the same recommendations all the time is driving the serious poster away / making us post shot answers, I know i can't be as bothered as i used to be and that’s to the forums disadvantage, if people keep driving the regulars away then you will be left with a forum full of silly threads, lies and unanswered questions. It's your choice which one you want to turn OCUK into.

Sounds like serious business, . Its like your implying everyone on here that recomends a car they have actually owned or at the very least driven the car they are recomending when we both know that a lot of these people just recomend it because others do totally dismissing other options of which people like me tend to provide so what you're saying could be taken the other way round.

No......

The mx5 is widely regarded as the best in its pricepoint for what it is. Why wouldn't people recommend them? A lot of people on the foum have them, more have had passenger rides or driven them and almost all people will have heard 2 comments about them:

1 - hairdressers car
2 - excellent cars

Makes sense that they get recommended.

Nope, I don't think people considering a Mondeo would also be looking at MX5s.

The standing 'joke' is whenever anyone asked for a large family hatchback, we would 9 times out of 10 tell them to buy a Mondeo, what the OP is saying is we've started to recommend the MX-5 so much it's turning into another Mondeo situation.

That was my original point!

This forum has its fair share of lemmings or this topic wouldnt exist.

And I never said it wasn't a valid point, i actually explained why it's to our advantage, the reason for these 'lemmings' is so clear and obvious peoples need to constantly drag it up can only be for one reason, and that’s to provoke a reaction.

MGF, some people prefer the looks, but it fails at everything else.

I didn't realise they were RWD, it's nice to have and alternative even if it was made by Rover... I've recently been tempted to flog my Micra and get an MX5 as I wouldn't mind trying something that's RWD and also simple to maintain and fix! The MX 5 seems to tick most of the boxes so I can see why it gets recommended quite a bit. :)

Never failed to raise a smile when i owned mine, it's almost the perfect example of why you don't need loads of power to have massive amounts of fun.

Not to provoke a reaction, more in the hope that people see it and stop doing it as its irritating. Also to widen the choice a little, not just on an MX5 but other marques. Like the CTR and Clio RS arent the only hot hatches that exist, the Mondeo isnt the only saloon, etc

Mid-engined too. Practically an F1 car ;)

The threads aren't quite that one sided, you do understand that just like everything in life one 'product' will be better than the others? It's only natural that during all the testing and reviews that one car in each sector comes out ontop, being car enthusiast’s lots of us have driven many many cars, so opinions are formed by reading the reviews and experience. Why would anyone want to buy an inferior product when you can get a better one for the same price?

But having nearly 240bhp does make them great fun! :D

Still as gay as the day is long, more power = extra gayness, i was less gay because i only had around 180 - 190bhp.....
