Is there anything wrong in this picture?

True, but that wasn't what annoyed me. People can call me whatever they like... I'm used to it afterall.

It's just when people take such an approach to badmouth your advice that peeves me off. Why they can't just say "Actually agw, a warped brake disc looks like..." etc etc.

But ah well. :)

Just for future refrence IME warped discs have patches which are less worn than else where, eg where it's started to rust and the pad no longer rubs it off as it doesn't make contact there any more. They were quite badly warped though, not sure if that always happens.

Kid as in whizz kid tapping away at his keyboard. Help how exactly? Pointing out where the disk was grinding? Or maybe the new phenomena of cast iron glazing? Dunno why people are getting so scientific over a consumable that has worn out.

Maybe i need to chill out, or maybe ive seen far too many examples of bad advice given out which can end up costing the people more money. And yes maybe i need to chill out. So what?

An incident occur with my fathers' car wheel, which made a horrible noise whilst driving one day. The problem was a stone which somehow managed to get in between the brake and the alloy. The sound came from the stone grinding/rubbing again the alloy leaving a groove in the alloy.

This may or may not be the case here but looking at the alloy would tell.

Sorry for being of no further use if the above is incorrect.

Fox is already taking it to ford to get it looked at. So infact AGW is costing him nothing. Honestly

Nothing wrong with keeping a trend of ironing out cowbell, and i was speaking in past tense, not what was happening here. Here was a simple case of the armchair expert twiddling his thumbs.

Your the one using the rolleyes now :p Tag, you got the lurgy.

Heh, now you're talking.

Computers are my speciality. I've been building them since I was 10.

I've had a car... what... a year? I'm bound to get things wrong aren't I :)

Well this is true mate, but its not like AGW has just joined the forum and spouted some drivel. Ok so he got something wrong but his posts are usually well constructed informative or make for interesting reading. So you could give the guy a break, explain it a little nicer and help him learn something in the process :)

I got the lurgy you say? :(

I could, but he's learnt a lot more instead. IThe lesson of dont talk about something to great detail that you know little about. Its known as 'cowbell' (avoids no end of swear filters;) )

If everything was as reliable as a Ford...

No complaints here :) Thrashed mine on a daily basis for the last year and it got through its MOT first time a couple of weeks ago with no advisories :D Not bad for a 5 year old car. Never had to replace anything but consumables either :)

To be honest I'm dead impressed with mine, over 130k now, owned it for 2 years 3 months and this is the first thing it's ever needed bar tyres, an annual service and petrol.

Disks got blue when they get too hot, smoke would have been from the pads. Shiny disks is a good sign, overheated disks tend to look as if someones scraped them

indeed, the discs glow red and smoke as well as the pads smoking. then after they cool down, the disc is blue, has patches where metal has burnt away and bits of the pad got burned to the surface, OH and most likely warped :D

I'll be honest Fox, if you are competant enough to do an oil/filter change, then you really are up to a disc/pad change. With the help (or possible hinderance) of a Haynes manual and by giving yourself a few hours time so you aren't under a time pressure, it will be a doddle.

I really debated whether to tackle the brakes on my Fiesta many moons ago, and bit the bullet. I'm so glad I did, as it was far easier than I imagined it would be, and I've been able to do the brakes on all my subsequent cars.

Save yourself a few bob, and learn something in the process - do it yourself!

I would do but I'm right in the middle of my exams at uni and just don't have the time - I just need the car to work :(

Rapid Fit are 1 mile away on the way to Uni and should do it while I wait, if the price takes the mick I'll use this weird thing called a bus until I've got time to sort it out but otherwise..

Fair do's, I know what you mean with time being at a premium!
Seriously though, next time it comes up, try to find the time. There is very little I like more than doing a job myself that I'd have paid vastly more for a garage to do for me!

Discs and pads rogered. Discs are scored and uneven, plus they do look pretty thin and old. The pads look to have a little bit of life left, but by this stage they are nearing the end of their life and get overheated quickly. Plus with low pads the caliper tends not to retract so well and you get the swooshing noise all the time as the pads "stick" slightly to the disc surface. No big deal :)
Wouldn't hurt to get the caliper sliders greased up while you're at it, they dry out over time and make sticking calipers and increased pad wear more likely.
